He had to sell our best players, made us millions in the transfer market and kept the team in the premier league. Made some mistakes and the football wasn't pretty but I think people are a bit unrealistic on what we could expect from any manager working under those conditions.

And he bought Joe Hart.

It appears that some of us have begun to forget our roots already. We were shit, utter, utter shit for a long, long time before Pearce managed us. Royle got us promoted and then relegated the year after. Why? Because, as a team, we just weren't good enough. KK came in and got us promoted with a semi-decent team which were capable of winning Div.1 but not really good enough to cut it in the Prem, and we only just stayed up. Pearce took over. Tried his best with the limited resources he was given, and we all slag him off? His hands were tied. When given no real money to strengthen he was forced to throw the youth team in, and THEY weren't up to it, not him. For me had did what he had to do to keep us up, and it's kinda embarrassing to hear what some blues are saying IMO.
Ah the old roots dig. Its well known that Pearce is a shit manager it diesnt mean i have forgotten playing Walsall in divsion 2

Pearce is very harshly judged. His overall record is he took over when we were in 12th place, he lost £20 million worth of players net, and finished his tenure in 14th. During that time he managed a derby win and signed Joe Hart.

I have had a season ticket for 25 years and my dad has had one for 50 years and during pearce’s full season we were honestly questioning how we could justify paying so much for a season ticket. We obviously still bought one for the next season but it’s the first time our faith was questioned.
It was an awful, awful season.
Even when we were in div 2 there was always genuine, if not blind, hope of better days but under pearce there was no hope.
For that reason the best away day i’ve ever had was 1st game of the season at west ham under sven. It was the dawn of a new era and i had genuine hope for the future again.
The one good thing i can say about pearce is he tested my loyalty to city to the absolute max and i managed to come through it – i made me realise how strong my faith is. But by Christ it was one boring season

He had no say or work in SWP's sale, he didn't produce him from the academy give him his chance or make him a better player so how did he make us millions in the transfer market

Its more a point that if you sell off your best players your results normally suffer greatly.

People expected Pearce to work with an inferior squad, maintain and improve results and play beautiful football.

Not realistic in the real world.

I kindof agree with the last post.

My irrational head is clouded by the fact that I had to endure such a pile of turgid shit football under his management - easily the most dull and boring I have ever witnessed from men in blue shirts.

On the other hand, yes he had no money and was doing his best to keep us tight at stop leaking goals so we could do our best to stay up.

I would say he is a poor manager, but no Alan Ball.

Not a dig in the slightest pal. A couple of days ago there was a thread about who was better, KK or JR and there was a queue of people all lining up to suck each of their cocks! Should Pearce have got us relegated and then promoted for people to see that he was just as competent as either of them?

If anything I should more bitter about that year. I missed three of the goals when I was on holiday abroad, and busted my foot just before the Fulham game.

Sat at home watching on the TV while we scored 3 in 10 minutes. Never been so happy and pissed off at the same time before or since.

Im sorry but all this bollocks that he had no money and what do we expect about playing great football

do you think players like cole trabelsi dabo corradi came to city and played for peanuts
despite spending next to fook all I bet we were in the top half on wages paid at the time
If you have limted money you scout the lower leagues and pick out the rough diamonds like Moyes did at the time with Cahill and lescott not blow it on journeyen players who couldnt give a fuck

Also he had Steve Wigley who was formally southampton coach who reccommended Mat Mills to Pearce but forgot to mention Walcott and Bale

Walcott would never have come to City, and we could never have afforded him. And I suspect he would have been hounded out of the club by the supporters after 12 months of headless chicken routine.

Bale was 13-15 during Pearce time, and its only been the last 2 years or so he wasn't considered a failure at Spurs.
