Stuart Pearce

I've just watched a Sky Sports documentary where Pearce claims that he was sacked by City, because the Board weren't happy with his request to spend more time with the England U21s

and there was me thinking it was because we were shite.

Met him once after a game, 1-0 home win against Palace in Div 1. My Dad had been invited to do the whole 'present the match ball' corporate thing so the whole family went. Met a lot of ex players and current staff that day; Mike Summerbee in particular was great - we had a mutual family friend - as were Kevin Keegan and Alex Williams. Pearce, on the other hand, was a miserable twat. I mean, my brother and I were teenagers, my Dad a fan of 40-odd years, and we'd travelled up from Bedford; the guy could have at least mustered a smile and a few nice words. It was such a great day, but all we talk about now is how much of a wanker Stuart Pearce was.

Shite manager, too. David James upfront - I still cringe.

Cracking player, though, no doubt about that.

From the 20th January 2007 until the end of that season we played 8 PL games and didn’t score a bloody goal. Absolutely miserable football, anybody complaining about the current team should give their heads a wobble.

Only at home. The away goals - remember Mpenza? - kept us up.

Poor team.

The signs were there that he wasn't the cleverest guy in the world when Beasant in his last game told him where to place the ball with his last minute penalty and therefore hit 100 goals....that went well.

In retrospect he was with us for far far too long but we didn't have a pot to piss in so kept the gig.

He always comes across as a thick fucker whenever I've caught him on the tv/radio.
