Suarez - banned for 4 months (page 74)

He got what he deserved but it rankles that serial thugs like Fellaini & Pepe get away time and time again without similar punishment. Mophead should have got a 6 game ban for his deliberate elbow on Zab. It was clearly premeditated and designed to hurt him.

Take out the biting, diving and racism and he's practically a saint.

A good wc, and after England match it looked that way, and Liverpool would have been in a position of either having a flying Suarez for the start of the season or £50m plus to strengthen the squad.
They will defo have neither now and if I was fifa I would ban him for an extra 2 months for not accepting responsibilty for his, obvious, actions.

In his defence, and it's only 'just' in his defence, there's a whole new debate to be had about his bad is his bite, vs (say) Fellaini's elbow on Zab at United which went unpunished?

For some reason, we're all conditioned to treat a bite (or spitting as absolutely shocking, but had Suarez just head butted, or elbowed someone, he's most likely get a red card, and that's it. I'n not 100% comfortable with that. People are saying elbows are 'part of the game' but I'm not having it.
I'm not sure I understand your point about the elbows. Going up for a ball with arms flailing is part and parcel of the game.

Suarez's was premeditated, he eyed Chellini up, walked over to him and bit him while his back was turned. The only elbow that comes close to that is Ben Thatchers who got a 10 game ban. If Ben had done that for a third time he would have been banned for life. Based on that 4 months for a 3rd bite is quite fair.

There's a world of difference between a player going up for a ball and resulting in an elbow... and an elbow like Fellaini's going into Zab's face when no jump was required!

Accidents happen, that's fair enough, but the point is, we're conditioned to treat spitting (and now biting) as socially shocking, but players have headbutted, or lunged in with two footed challenges and deliberate elbows and merely seen a red card.
There's plenty of players who've seen a straight red three times or more.

It's not that Suarez is getting harshly treated, it's that we turn a blind eye to repeat offences in other forms.

Yep, that's my point. In the grand scheme of things, the risk of serious injury is face greater with an elbow to the face or a two footed lunge. If premeditated, then there can be no excuse whatsoever.
I can accept that sometimes, premeditated is tricky to judge, and so you can't assume it's always so - but once in a while, it's a clear as day and the worse they see is a red card / 3 match ban.

Ben Thatcher's elbow is a notable exception where the FA actually overruled their mantra of 'if the ref saw it, there's nothing else we can do'. The ref DID see it, but the FA (rightly) added to the punishment. They should do that more often.

And you don't think A&E's elbow on Zaba was pre-meditated? He looked where Pablo was and deliberately stuck his elbow in Zab's face.

It was as pre-meditated as Suarez's bite on either Ivanovic or Chiellini!

I think its going to take somebody to get a serious injury from an elbow for the fa to start coming down heavy on these animals that do it can't remember what bans fashinou and thatcher got? As for suarez he is lucky at only getting a 4 month ban could have been alot worse!
