Submarine disaster near Bali

You have painted a picture of the worst imaginable hell.

RIP to all those poor souls.

Thank you for your take on this.

The boat was found in three separate pieces, according to sonar images.
If the Hull broke up with the souls still alive, whilst they will have known what was about to happen, they would not have felt a thing

Looks like 55 Submariners lost their lives
RIP.
In 1971
I was based at HMS Dolphin the submarine base at Gosport near Portsmouth when HMS Artemis sunk in the harbour
Luckily all survived God Bless
Awful way to die. I lost my rag in a boozer with rags who were singing about the Russian submarine in the derby when Keane fouled Alfie Haaland. Partly through those rags twats, partly through the beer but also partly because of the lost servicemen and their families. Takes a special sort to do that job and no laughing matter when it goes wrong.

I have spent many a month in the oceans deep and freezing oceans, but always felt safe, even though knowing the consequences of a tragic event.

Haven't read any details on this tragedy, but assuming the Hull remained intact, the crew would have been exposed to a living hell.

Too deep to escape and every breath taken depleting that available, and as the hrs ticked on, starting to gasp as the oxygen levels fall.

Freezing cold, no doubt pitch black and knowing that when you close your eyes as you drift off to sleep, you will never reopen them.

RIP to them all and godspeed all submariners at sea, a safe return on completion of their respective mission.

Condolences to all their families.

Edit: in my years as a submariner, I only experienced one scare.

Jesus, that's a grim reality for anyone to find themselves in.
Whilst there is no 'good' way to die, this certainly sounds like one of the worst possible.

Appreciate your thoughts on it, not a fun topic to talk about.

Cheers blue, are you still serving?

I have respect for all servicemen and women, past and present, and whilst many on the outside looking in may see a fabulous lifestyle, the commitment these people make is, imo, off the scale.

Aye mate, 29 years and counting. Just under 3 years to go and that's me done.

I read a book about the Kursk disaster a few years back. Truly awful that some guys survived for several days in the end of that sub and they may have been rescued if the Russians had not still been in cold war mentality and asked for the wests' and the RN help sooner.

It was a tragedy that as you say, many could have been saved
