First and foremost, Gary Lineker was, shamefully, historically inaccurate and politically inaccurate in his now infamous tweet.
The political, social and diplomatic situation in Europe in the 1930s was, in all references, not only one of fear for millions of Europeans, but also a time when various regimes across Europe were torturing and imprisoning people simply on the basis of their culture and religion. Armies invaded regions which then had alien political systems imposed upon them. Subsequently, millions died either on the battlefield or in the cities of Europe.
For a mature adult Lineker has shown alarming ignorance, an appalling lack of knowledge of 1930s Europe. He has also shown an arrogant self importance of his standing.
That alone requires that Lineker should have been shown the door from the BBC.
The fact that he is a vastly overpaid employee, whilst the poorly paid and pensioners have to subsidise his million pound pay packet beggars belief.
The BBC has lost a golden opportunity to rid itself of the Lineker burden on it it's budget, and, in consequence, been publicly humiliated.
Lineker does not have the right to express his opinion on his Twitter platform, secured by his BBC privilege. That the opinion, as explained, was grossly inaccurate and untruthful, leaves this so called 'National treasure' shredded.
As for MOTD he is merely wallpaper alongside the more erudite and entertaining Shearer, Richards and Wright.
Sky had no qualms on removing Keys and Gray.
