It's not the cost of the barge, it's the cost of the service contract. Which includes providing an additional two vessels of similar spec and all the services included, catering, cleaning, transport etc.

we agreed £1.6bn contract - the fact we cannot find places willing to take two of them is not going to get us any discount - we ordered - they delivered - we didn't have letterboxes large enough to take delivery. Not their problem.

Given that they were so keen to sign the contracts quickly for headlines plus the fact they did so before they had proper health checks done and the stellar performance we saw in Brexit negotiations I doubt the Govt had the gumption to include any get out clauses in contracts

She is my MP, and unfortunately this part of Essex is as brexity blue as it gets. If (as many predict) the Tories get wiped out next year, Patel would be one of the last 10-20 MPs to go. So she knows she can piss other Tories off as much as she likes with zero consequences.
