Cameron can be scrutinised but by other unelected peers. I assume they'll be looking for a rotten borough to parachute him in if it is a longer term job....

We’re all technocrats these days aren’t we? Personally I think Cameron being FS with the world going to hell in a handcart is a solid move for this country. Exactly the steady, experienced, sort of person we need in the job right now.

Hard to believe that Cameron, despite being a shite PM who thought a referendum on the EU was a good idea and despite his somewhat questionable ethics is now, by some distance, the most competent member of the cabinet ... funny old world!

Like I say in terms of where the world is he is an excellent appointment for the short term. The “technical” hoops to jump through to make it so are a little distasteful.

I think he’s a far better choice of minister than the mob that have held office for the past few years. It doesn’t stop the irony of it being him, though.

It'll also be interesting to see what the Tory party does. I wonder if the ERG have been surprised by this and are looking at how UKIP can stay in charge of the party, or whether they need to split.

It’s also lovely that Farage might not know if he’s already in the Jungle bubble.
