Sorry it states "Relieved off his managerial duties and placed on gardening leave"

"Gardening Leave means they'll still be paying him, doesn't it?

yes, I read that this morning but had forgotten about it. If he is on gardening leave as opposed to sacked then it could all be something a bit dodgy.

Here's something about the youth team player thing. Doesn't sound like anything too sinister.

If he is only on gardening leave why does their statement say:

Club Statement

Hull City AFC confirms that Phil Brown has been relieved of his managerial duties at the club and has been placed on gardening leave with immediate effect. Brian Horton and Steve Parkin will take charge of first-team duties until further notice.

We would like to place on record our sincere thanks to Phil for the major success achieved during a period of four seasons in charge at the club and wish him every success for the future. Promotion to the Premier League in 2008 and retention of our status on the last day of the 2009 season are unique events in the history of Hull City AFC and both were achieved under Phil's stewardship during a period which will never be forgotten by all connected with the club.

However, retention of Premier League status is paramount and the board believes that a change in managerial direction is the correct option at this time. The club will keep supporters completely up-to-date in respect of any managerial appointment but, in the meantime, Brian Horton and Steve Parkin will prepare the team for our important game at Portsmouth next Saturday.

Adam Pearson
Chairman, Hull City AFC

If you are just putting someone on gardening leave that usually means that there is an enquiry going on and they will pay the person until the outcome and then, if they are proven 'innocent' of whatever they re-instate, but as they are thanking him for his service etc. surely that is the sack?

gardening leave - effective suspension pending an enquiry that could leave to sacking for something serious enough to meanno compensation. Sacking him outright means paying up his contract. Or they want rid but don't want him jumping ship to say - Portsmouth?

Absolutely nothing sinister. Players adviser/lawyer/agent sent letter to club stating they are not to talk to the player about a new contract which has only 1 year left on excisting.
Must be a sign things are not too happy in the camp plus the Bullard/Barmby fight in the park may have contributed to the decision.

More to come I suspect.

I hear that this bloke is shitting it now Brown is soon to be out of work, he's heard a rumour Brown is after his job.

its a shame for him really. love him or hate him he was a man with passion and hull had done fuck all before he came. obviously the football has been shite but its hull for crying out loud! they sack him to a last minute defeat to a title challenger when they had 10 men for most of the game. who they gonna get to keep em up?
