The beeb are reporting two people dead and 220,000 homes without power.
A boy swept out at sea and a girl in her house crushed by a fallen tree I believe.
Good job the energy companies put up their prices to cover all this! (*cough)

Falling trees are unavoidable. Being swept out to sea, however, is avoidable. Just seen Sky news having a right laugh with some adults running into the swell and having their feet swept from under them. Call me old and with no sense of adventure, but it seems like a dereliction of duty.

old and with no sense of adventure

Rather old and unadventurous than 14 and drowned at sea

But with a lot of common and dry feet

Got up at 5.45am for work, had shower and got dressed. Everything seemed fine.
6.30am Power cut.
6.50am Cab failed to show. Downstairs phone (charger, mobile) not working but upstairs phone, cabled working so rang cab firm and lack of drivers as some not made it in. Rang brother as he pass's my house on way to work to pick me up.
8.10am Brother picks me up. Still power cut as I leave.

Hope powers back on when I get in from work or it will be a very cold, dark evening. may as well go straight to bed if power is not on and catch up with some sleep

Well, crisis over in Tameside. The road sweeper's just been up and down the road doing a bad job of clearing the leaves up (because it's wet and hard to pick up). Obviously not expecting much of a leaf fall for the rest of the day. I love autumn but prefer to have a couple of windy days to get the leaves off the trees then I can clear the bloody things out of my garden. 4 trees directly across road in cemetery, 2 barren, 2 fully leaved.

Massive anti-climax. I've shit better storms. Basically a windy night with a few leaves and bins blown about.
