What puzzles me about this is that it has been public knowledge for months, but seems to have risen in prominence greatly in the past few days.
Why has it blown up?
Something more ‘important’ going on that they want hiding so taking the emphasis off and pursuing Mone instead. Hiding bad news I think they call it!!

In which case its backfired massively as Mone has quit the Party and is now squealing like a pig - its so damaging nobody appears interested in whatever they sought to hide. Tomorrow is the last day before Xmas recess so a last chance to rally the troops - Sunak will just want it over and done asap

The more I read of this story the less it makes sense. The half dozen posts above show the knots the couple have tied themselves up in. - Legal knots, not bondage you filthy perverts.
Lying to the press is OK as has been said, but not declaring an interest (or possibly actively hiding an interest) is hardly a simple oversight given the value of the contract and the urgency of the PPE situation.
So are they hoping for a more sympathetic hearing? It's possible but they are unlikely to get one.
Perhaps they are hoping their case gets swept under the carpet along with all the profiteering allegations made against others.
The cynic in me thought they'd been told protection is at hand due to the potential knock-on effect of prosecution, but that appears not to be the case.
I doubt they gave the interview without taking legal advice, so what the hell are they up to?

Dowden, Nanady, Coffey

Fuck sake listening to these pricks I picked the worst week to switch on, only our mayor Andy talking sense

I’d say I’m pretty middle of road, so perhaps better placed than some to look at things both ways when it comes to political bias, and whilst I don’t think she’s quite as one sided as others, there’s no doubt she gives Tory politicians an easier ride, especially the most senior ones, presumably because she’s a Tory herself.

Also strikes me as not very likeable or nice.

Being a tory doesn't matter, Paxman was a tory, but he was also a good journalist and interviewer as are many others.

She is normally ill prepared or poor in her research, inflexible to opinion beyond her bias, either doesn't or chooses not to listen to responses and repsond according, opting to churn out pre pepared lines. and finally hhas a tendancy to send her mate the questions prior so they are in a safe zone.

She breaks most bacis journalisitc rules and is mediocre at best at her job, I would get up for the sunday morning politcal discussions but slowly she has made me apathetic as her show is pointless where no real insight is gained.

All fair points, apart from one small correction on your opening sentence: being a Tory doesn’t have to matter (e.g. Paxman) because in her case it plainly does, and it’s completely unprofessional and actually displays a lack of professional self-respect.

I think that's a good summary. If you look at her career path it really doesn't support the role she was put into. In her previous role she was indebted to people who helped her break stories but that was less of a problem in that role. She rose to political editor on Robbie Gibbs's watch and I suspect she was seen as being from the right type of background with the right kind of establishment instincts. Beyond any inate biases, her journalistic background just isn't suited to the types jobs she's had of late.

Sort of related, it's always mystified me how anyone could look at the people who run and are employed by the BBCs political unit and fall for the trope that it has a left wing bias, it's simply ludicrous.
