Sunderland (A) | PL | Post Match Thread

We’ve got to the stage with some now it seems that if we didn’t win 20 games in a row to win the league everything is a total disaster. Bizarre

Given the way we’ve won leagues and clawed back deficits you’d think it might’ve different but apparently not!
Some on here never learn

Haven't been through the whole thread but just to say I hope whoever needed treatment by the medics towards the back of the stand early in the second half is OK? Was towards the back to the left of our block and there was a round of applause as he/she was helped out.

Saw it mentioned on Twitter, and a few people said he was sitting up and talking as he was being taken out. Fingers crossed he's OK.

couple of rows behind where I was sat. it looked like a head injury and was helped down by the medics etc. Was conscious so hopefully he's OK and recovering.

And nobody, let me repeat, nobody, other than City, has played them at their place while they've been missing 5 or 6 players. Other than Leeds perhaps who were 16th at the time and also drew. Hence I believe it's two points dropped.
They title isn't decided in January, but we've already lost at Brighton, Villa and Newcastle, and still have to go to Anfield (where we hardly ever win) and Chelsea.
You are talking too much sense mate. You'd better come up with some reasonable excuses.

Can you tell us who are these nailed on starters for them, that was missing last night?

Diarra ..injured most of the season
Sadiki . Diarras replacement..been exceptional alongside Xhaka
Reinildo..left back

Traore and Talbi are the other starters

Masuaka also went does not start.

So 4 regular starters went to Afcon....and Ballard missing as our other regular starter.

Of the 5 missing.....

Traore and Talbi replaced by Mayenda and Adringa...slight impact

Sadiko repaced by Gertruuda.. impact

Reinildo replaced by Cirkin...major impact

Diarra and Masuaka n/a

Ballard replaced by Hume.... big impact..but more in who plays what position

So yes we are badly impacted.... but i would say in 3 instances of the 7..not all

Credit should go to the Sunderland fans.
They have been through the proverbial mill over the last decade but by fuck are they enthusiastic!
Cheering every tackle and throw in for their team definitely had an effect on the game and made it a hugely hostile environment for our lads.
Wish we could bring some of that atmosphere back to the Etihad….

They really do give substance to the old cliché about “the twelth man”.

I do agree with the last part. At times we are guilty of putting in too many passes in and around the opposition box and against a resolute defence like tonight we really need to take half chances when presented to us. Maybe then we could have some luck with a deflection, a handball given.
On "percentages" we're unlikely to find the killer pass in the penalty area - and if we try it we risk losing possession and a possible breakaway - so a distance shot that's blocked is more than likely to come back to us anyway, so why not try it?

We could have easily won that game especially in the second half, but in the end we got a point. Shit happens, has happened in the past and will happen again. Sunderland’s energy levels and physicality, aided by the officials, disrupted our game. It doesn’t matter that they had various players missing, given their tactical approach, willing energetic runners did their the job - but we still could have done it. Arsenal will have a wobble - we just have to stay in touch. The best thing last night was Rodri getting minutes and looking imperious.
Onwards and upwards - it’s still game on.

We also had several players go down, holding up the game, in the first half, but not get subbed. One even allowed Pep to do an impromptu team talk.
But we are whiter than white aren’t we
Our players weren't pretending. Don't pretend they were. We played a few minutes with ten men because of injury.
