Sunderland (A) | PL | Post Match Thread

Frustrating game, but more impactful could be the fact we had to withdraw several players through injury. Ref seemed very happy to let them leave one on us, and the amount of shirt pulling was ridiculous, but at the end do the day they're unbeaten at home and it showed why. They're not pretty, they're not hugely skillful, but they're dogged as three legged street mutt who's got their chops around a hock of ham.
The shirt pull on Dias for the shot saved by Donna was ridiculous. And a defender daren't do the same in case the ref calls it as DOGSO.

Yes . That " foul" by Haaland summed it up for me . He's such a gentleman . Love him .

And you are right . The one game we put ten men behind the ball after taking an early lead ( Tarquins away ) we got castigated by the press. Heck , I caught a commentator sympathizing with the dippers dilemma having to play against a park the bus Leeds . That's more or less what we deal with every match .
Not the first half last night.

You do realise you are not allowed a opinion on here unless its positive? I got banned for calling Savinho shit on the pre match thread hahaha. LET ME REPEAT he's super shit now, he could of scored two last night. I suppose its not his fault, just if the nets were bigger and wider, they might of gone in.
My issue with your pre match comments had nothing to do with Savinhos ability ( or lack of)
It was that they were in the pre match forum and Victor Meldrewish
The place for them is in the match forum, the after match or the Savinho thread.
I have looked at the Savinho one this morning and there are loads of negative posts, many if them agreeing with you but you have no post there.
We have no input on Peps teams but my heart skips a beat too when I see some of them an hour before kick off.

Happy New Year to you.

Diarra ..injured most of the season
Sadiki . Diarras replacement..been exceptional alongside Xhaka
Reinildo..left back

Traore and Talbi are the other starters

Masuaka also went does not start.

So 4 regular starters went to Afcon....and Ballard missing as our other regular starter.

Of the 5 missing.....

Traore and Talbi replaced by Mayenda and Adringa...slight impact

Sadiko repaced by Gertruuda.. impact

Reinildo replaced by Cirkin...major impact

Diarra and Masuaka n/a

Ballard replaced by Hume.... big impact..but more in who plays what position

So yes we are badly impacted.... but i would say in 3 instances of the 7..not all

Cheers. So 3 then rather than the 7 (6 actually at AFCON) that City fans on here are claiming just to have a whinge at our own team. You'd have thought your lot had thrashed us last night rather than being an entirely entertaining draw. I was impressed by your team all over the pitch, from the ball playing goalie all the way through to the man mountain up front.

And nobody, let me repeat, nobody, other than City, has played them at their place while they've been missing 5 or 6 players. Other than Leeds perhaps who were 16th at the time and also drew. Hence I believe it's two points dropped.
They title isn't decided in January, but we've already lost at Brighton, Villa and Newcastle, and still have to go to Anfield (where we hardly ever win) and Chelsea.
Your different opinion is fine. We’ll see at the end of the season if this is a defining result.

I don’t think we were massive favorites expected to win, nor did we give away goals after leading, so we didn’t ‘drop 2 points’. Not winning doesn’t always mean points are dropped.

The fucking entitlement in here at times is nauseating.

I don't think we played badly, just didn't have the luck in front of goal when it mattered. Credit to Sunderland, they played very well.
We were dreadful that 1st half, improved a lot 2nd but it wasn't enough. We have barely been consistent in both halves all season, generally one 45 good, one shit

Could have
Might have

I thought we were a shade unlucky not to win. Bernado a fraction offside and savinho had two great chances as did gvaridol.

They defended for their lives and full credit to them for that. It matters not how many players are at afcon etc they are still a decent premier league team and have a deep squad and spent a fair amount.

It’s hard to get through a low block no matter what team you face.

Some of the players did look a bit jaded and a bit of rotation would be nice.

It’s a good point and we can’t win every game.

Onwards and upwards I say. Still think Arsenal will have a little wobble at some point. We just need to keep on their tails and I think we will be ok. Long way to go yet.

I thought the Mackems had a plan and deserved a point. They could have snatched 3 on the counter.
Sunderland were resolute. City were sluggish. We had chances and wasted them - and didn’t risk a shot from outside the box. The few snapshots were well blocked.

If City went into a game deeply affected by AFCON or injuries and played like Sunderland, I'd be proud of the lads. Sometimes teams refuse to roll over and have their belly tickled. It'll be a pleasure to visit Sunderland and its area again next season. The Black Cats are purring. All the best for the season.
