Sunderland (A) | PL | Post Match Thread

Haaland & Foden were nonexistent was like playing with 9 men.

Rodri was a class above. Gvardiol superb and unlucky not to score.

Take the point and move on.
Got to have players who can actually get Haaland in the game and release the ball quickly to him, or actually not put every cross to their man

He did look slow but a couple of times when he was left one on one in dangerous situations his experience and composure got us out of trouble.

He’ll sharpen up with game time and will play a big part if we go deep in all 4 comps
Hopefully he will sharpen up but I don't think he will get any quicker unfortunately.. Play him against Exeter

If Rodri gets close to his best, as he looked here, then we look like a different team tbh. Don't care if it's this year or next year we will do some big stuff. That's all you can ask for some times as a fan.

Great second half just didn’t get that little be of luck we needed. Thought there was a foul in box on Josko right at end but never replayed. Sunderland is a tough place to get a win, there’s a reason they haven’t lost one yet.
That should have been a penalty - defender clipped Gvardiol's calf, which just stalled his momentum and reduced his ability to power his header either side of goalie - should have been reviewed by VAR - I wonder why it wasn't...........

4 mins. That’s a piss take.
Couple of gk took 40 secs at least.
Ref did warn him once but ref was weird tonight.
Is this the type of reffing for the rest of the season or does it go back to fouls and cards for shirt pulls etc next week.
They could’ve added 15 minutes and we still wouldn’t have scored.

Just a comment on Doku. He looks so good when he carries the ball and goes past his defender, but his final ball and the number of times he loses possession are shocking. He could have won us the game tonight but he also could have lost it. I think he has so much potential but huge improvement is needed.
Talking shit

A poor result but we played well in the 2nd half and were unlucky not to win it. I think we all knew this was going to be a difficult game, and it was.
Agreed although we should be beating them with six of their main players missing. They played out of their skin as did the Sunderland support who were incredible to their team.

Watching that as a Gooner reminded me of our match there. Sunderland are a tough team and I said at the time it was our toughest game of the season just because they are relentless and put their bodies on the line.

You should have won just like we should have (Savinho simply has to put his chance away) but at the same time you have to admire Sunderland's effort and spirit. Like Barcodes away (and Etihad away for us) it's one of those matches you're just happy happens only once a season.
We beat them 3-0 at the Ethiad and they had a stronger team then….
