Sunderland (A) | PL | Post Match Thread

Frustrating
However imo
They take the blame collectively
No good blaming certain Players
We go again on Sunday
Don't become a plastic fan like there are lots on Instagram who, to be honest are Clueless
I've never read anything from them that's constructive when things haven't worked out.
Most on here are legacy
Remember where weve been and we need to remain loyal to the roots of the club

Special mention for Rodri who was superb whether defending, switching the play and effortlessly spraying the ball around and getting into the Sunderland box with a purpose. Such a smooth and brilliant player.
Indeed. What impressed me most about him tonight was his direct forward running before releasing the ball. He came through a tough game with flying colours and we'll certainly need him second half of season.

We deserved to win this one. 5 great chances: 1 by Erling, 2 by Savinho and another 2 by Gvardiol.
Assna needs to start dropping points asap. Should've already happened against the Wolves and Everton.
I'm none to sure that Gvardiols chances were really that 'clear cut', but certainly Haaland and Savinho should have scored ..... but you can never be confident that Savinho will score at any time !

We don’t like physical teams away from home. Not for the first time away this season we only played well in patches. It is a recurring theme.
Replying to this and the post before - yeah I was disappointed today. We should have showed our class. I don't care how difficult they are at home. If they're at home against Barca next week in CL you expect Barca to win. We should be doing much better.

Don't disagree. Foden, O'Reilly, Haaland, Nico all poor. Nico has come a long way, but fuck me, a half fit Rodri is another 3 or 4 levels up.

The gilt edged missed sitter sticks in my craw more than anything the others did though.
And even that poor Foden created two chances for Haaland and Savinho that pushed our xG to go above 2.

We complain when opponents park the bus, even at home, but against Sunderland hurtling forward we never seemed too keen on quick counter-attacks, just the usual slow build-up, Some of the second half urgency would have been useful in the first half.

Haaland took too long to realise that the ref was allowing rough stuff, and should have put himself about more. And he was taken out on in his own half on one of those counter-attacks in the second half.
Time and time again this season we have only played well for one half or part of both halves. This is a problem and one we need to solve. Away from home our performances have not been great.

Clearly we aren't the best footballing team in the world to watch..... but we are coming from a long way back.
Thought we battled hard and the first half was even....

Second half..you murdered us, but we are getting the rather fantastic habit of staying in the game..and still being a threat.

Can't understand why you didn't test Cirkin more, he really struggled v Leeds.

That said, the chance at the start of the 2nd half changes the whole game if it goes in.

A fantastic point for us, and smiling at some of your comments of our fans celebrating like we've won the world cup...what do you honestly expect...think back to when you had been out of the top league for almost a decade...and you take on a big boy and get a result....
Last January we were drawing with Plymouth at the Stadium of Light.....and now we have drawn with probably the best team in the world over the last decade.... celebrate.....Too fuckin right... we are celebrating every point we gain until relegation is out of the picture... 29 down..11 to go.....that said, it goes without saying that I want you to win your remaining 19 league games 5-0.
I don’t remember us being out of the top division for “almost a decade”, when was this?

How to kill football. Watch Sunderland or the rags.
Fair play to Sunderland i say. Despite several players missing they got stuck in with resolute defending and were willing to attack us. I was impressed how fit and determined they were, credit to their manager and coaching staff.

I have a soft spot for Sunderland FC, and supporters are sound.

Disappointed we couldn't win but a point isn't a bad result. On to Chelsea game for our next win i think.

A late goal and everyone would be stating what a hard earned but well deserved win.

We played well, Sunderland had some luck, the performances of some of the players were not as bad as being made out on here. But I guess dropped points can do that to some people’s minds.
We really do need to start shooting from distance a bit more when we come up against aggressive teams who like to pack their own box .... trying to walk the ball into the net is very difficult in those circumstances, and a long shot could easily benefit from a 'wicked deflection'.

Well I for one thought that was very decent performance. Especially second half. Only 1 team looked capable of winning and as well as Sunderland defended we still created opportunities.
Sometimes in sport you don’t get what is deserved from the performance. Thats the beauty of it.
But if we play like that in all away games from now until the end of the season then I for one would be delighted and believe we’d win a good 80%+ of those games

The bandwagon is getting bigger. The loan soldier is the loan soldier. Savnio plays bc we need to rest players. If we get Semanyo Savinio will be a footnote in our history and possibly be sold on IMO.
Like I say you listen to what others think.. Sav should score a few more of that there is no doubt but he's been decent the last month or so but obviously you can't see anything positive.. It's not like Doku scores she'd loads either.. And yes I really like Doku too. He's really good at beating players but often lacks an end product..
I can't be added replying any further as it's fucking pointless..
Enjoy the New year

And that’s a doozy of a shit post to start the year, take a bow. Better still watch another sport.
What’s wrong with it?

We were absolutely appalling in the final 3rd.

Three I mentioned were absolute garbage today.

Sorry I’m not buzzing to be 4 points behind the Arseholes on New Year’s Day.

You just about deserved a point, and so your fans should celebrate not having lost a home game yet, absolutely.

I'm not a fan of falling over all the time looking for a foul, so that it gets the fans singing "you're not fit to referee", I don't like him either, but I thought he had a decent performance tonight, and didn't get caught by the obvious, unlike many others who fall for it every time.

I think you're already safe, as I can't see anyone near the bottom getting anywhere near 40 points, 5 more and you will be "safe", but you're far better than that, the gap between Forest and Brighton is too big, and you're miles from that.

Poor first half. Should have won it in the second half but didn't.
At least we didn't lose.
Arse drew at Sunderland as well BTW

Tbh...i am starting to think safety is now likely, and not just a hope.... but I'm not going to lie.... I still look out for Wolves, Burnley, West Ham.and forests results first..just in case... 50 years of pain and being let down doesn't leave the system easily.
