Sunderland post match thread

Pep concept is all about space. We are very lucky to inherit a know-how that he had time to perfect elsewhere.

I seem to know why Pep came to England. There's something else he hasn't mastered yet: the concept of time.

I see excitement ahead. We have players who love to play to their own time: Fernandinho, Leroy Sane, Iheanacho

And also Jesus the Brazilian.

-well looks like we need a goalie. hart wont cut it and him and pep wont ever repair this. -kolarov wow. at the least looks to be a serviceable backup at cb
-stones looks super comfortable with the ball under pressure and passing.
-still think we should give the youth a go at fullback
-dinho was great once again. excellent header to sterling to get the penalty
-thought silva looked a step slower. this may be expected at this stage and after injuries
-sterling did look to be playing with confidence but i still think he lacks a finishing ability and some skill once he gets in the box
-was impressed with how hard nolito worked and seems he'll be creating chances all year
-sergio and kdb just looked a bit rusty

i believe sane and gundogan will replace sterling and silva as starters. we need kompany in the lineup and a goalie pep is comfortable with. once we have that and get some more games together i think this will be great

Sane will replace Nolito, Sterling was excellent today and will only get better. I hold out hope that this time next year we also have Alaba and La Porte.

Three points for a side adapting to a completely new style of play with several key players injured - I'll take it.

Sterling looked confident creating chances on both the right and left. Navas caused trouble on the right with his pace, putting in an excellent cross for the own goal. Stones played well, keeping the ball when under pressure and playing it out confidently from the back.

Sterling MoTM.

Well done guys and gals....a bit gutting to lose to an own goal....but I'd have taken 2-1 before kick off.
Have a great season

Thanks mate, was a tough match, hope you take 6 points off the scum, Arse, Spuds and both dippers.

Good luck for the season, would be good to see Borough, Sunderland and Mewcastle all in the league next season!

Tbf he got 10 and assisted 14 last season for Liverpool. I'm not saying Milner is as good, but KDB isn't that much greater than Milner. Silva in his prime is what I expected with the hype around KDB but I don't see that sort of player in him. I hope I'm wrong and he puts in some cracking performances obviously.
This is absolutely comical.

Agreed. The optimism here after a narrow win against a very poor side is puzzling. There were some good signs, esp. Raheem, JS, Dinho as usual. And Gundogan will obviously be an important addition. On the other hand, David, Sergio, and most worryingly, KDB, were poor.

Things may very well get much better when we’re at full strength, but we can only judge what we see, and do so honestly. From that point of view, Pep’s vision for the team may take longer to become a reality than some of us expect. We all need to be patient.
There's something incredibly sad about about fans of other teams signing up to opposition forums and pretending to belong.
If you are a blue I apologise for thinking you're a rag and you have my sincere condolences for being an idiot.

I think it will take more than just hope.

From what I saw of Silva yesterday he will be a starter. He was given the freedom to roam about.
