Sunderland v City post match

They were shot, almost punch-drunk, for the last 30 minutes. We could have had a bag full.
I read somewhere yesterday that Peps long chat to Silva after the game was discussing that point. He wanted us to go for more goals whereas we seemed happy enough to keep possession in our own half. Not sure how much truth is in that.

One of my worries is how the hell do we ever think about replacing David Silva. The guy was truely magnificent yesterday and his form at the moment is one of the reasons we seem to have clicked recently. At 31 though, only a few years last watching this genius :( Not sure there is a player in world football who can replace him. No doubt Pep will have a plan, but it will be a sad day when Dave hangs his boots up.

We will not replace him. Silva is a once-in-a-generation player, the best I've seen in a City shirt along with Bell. What we will do is limit the damage, by bringing in fine midfielders with years ahead of them – Gundogan is the first of the crop. But as I've said before, a player of Silva's sheer footballing intelligence can play at top level until about thirty-five, if he's managed correctly (as he is being at present – not played into the ground, as he was being by Pellegrini).
There were more than a few silly posts on this forum towards the end of last season about how Silva was washed up. Could've been rag impostors, of course, and wishful thinking.

It would be nice to see Silva get some protection from refs, to prolong his career.
You can see his frustration in games where he's getting lumps kicked out of him (and no bookings) and finally he retaliates
And goes straight in the book.
Maybe Pep should raise this in a press conference.

I don't see why it's seen as a show of humbleness, sometimes the opposition don't set up the way you expect them too, or have different personnel, and then changing tactics is not swallowing your pride and saying you made a mistake, it's just adapting to the opposition's own changes.
Plenty of cases where managers fail to do that. We've all been there screaming for change at time.
I like a man who can admit he got something wrong at the outset for whatever reason and is prepared to act on it. No question it is a sign of a good manager and humbleness is definitely a virtue in that department.

Starting to get some consistency and once we have some younger defenders who can actually defend we will be unstoppable

Had we not have changed the manager it's quite conceivable he would have faded away

Pep has given him a new lease of life

Yes i think you are right, he needs protecting as he gets older as he takes a lot of punishment in games, though he is a tough little man. As for peope writing him off, i find a lot of what people say changes with the results. Bad result and the likes of Kun, Silve, Sterling, KDB have all been written off by plenty on here.

I'm not sure he'll want to stay with us that long though, he's always said he wants to play for Las Palmas before he retires. I'd be ecstatic if we got 2 more years out of him.

That was before we got Pep, though. Players seem to be fascinated with playing under Pep in a way that I don't recollect seeing before. Let's imagine a scenario in which we're getting to the final of the CL, maybe winning it, within the next two to three years – not implausible. Would David really want to not be part of that?
