Two steps back.

After watching today's game I can't help but reflect on the similarities with the later days of the previous manager:

Ponderous, slow build up play
Lack of desire
Just turn up and win attitude

Having sat through the match today I have come to the conclusion that a lot of our players need shipping out, two successive managers have now tried to get the best out of this talented squad with no avail (okay Mancini had success at first but the team seemed a spent force towards the end of his tenure)

Today seemed to be a re-run of the cup final defeat to Wigan, superstar players turning up expecting to win, without putting in the necessary effort against a poor team.

The players failed to press Sunderland high up the pitch resulting in slow, predictable build up play (which Mancini was always criticised for) We have too many players that are just happy to pick up their pay cheques at a supposed big club and coast through games.

Garcia, Nasri, Dzeko and Navas should not play for us again, Demichellis looks distinctly average and when Yaya is having an off day our midfield looks pedestrian and predictable.

Sorry for the above rant, but I fail to see any improvement from last season (so far I would say we have regressed quite alarmingly, especially at the back) I am really struggling to see how Pellegrini wants us to play? So far it just seems like the same team with a more porous defence?

I am hoping someone can cheer me up and explain what the manager is trying to do? And how so called top players can produce such a dire, gutless display?

I think pellegrini has made you better going forward then last season but he lost the defensive solidness that won you the title . He also does not react at all when a games going away from you. He underachived big time this season with such a talented attacking line up. Also getting rid of barry and dejong looks a stupid move for me as they were key in winning you the title.

You can have all the talent in the world. But if you done play as a team in games like today your drop points to shit teams.

i thought de michellis was the one positive from todays game.

Thought he looked ponderous and slightly lightweight, not saying he directly affected the result of the game, but I am not really impressed so far, doesn't seem any better than what we already have. Was hoping he might sure us up at the back especially with Komps being out for a while.

I think Nasri has been one of our best players this season. He was our best player today too for me.

I don't disagree about Garcia, Navas and Dzeko though.

We lost. We were far the better team. We were the better team against villa. The better team against Chelsea. Cardiff was possibly too early in the adjustment and Stoke we were shit.

We are not playing badly, it's just not going for us. Any one of a number if chances could have gone in today.

I'm not ignoring the obvious but the best we can hope for this season is to challenge and hope others fall away. Today want a disgrace. It wasn't abysmal. It was just a bad result.

Time to support our team. Unless the arrogant ones think they should only do that when we win.

We'd be noted if we win every game anyway. A crisis every 3 weeks keeps it more fun

We were only better in 2nd half and by that time it was too late.
You are blinded by our home form.

Not blinded. But only losing 1 0 at half time and being better in the second half doesn't make it too late. I do believe it's possible to score 2 goals in the second half... we've even left it quite late in the past you know...

Criticising the team on a forum after a piss poor performance does not make your arrogant. I always support the team in the stadium no matter how they are playing.

All this "look how far we have come, we used to be playing Stockport county" bullshit has got to stop, that was then, this is now. The club have spent millions on the team and their wages, As the wage bill has grown so have our expectations and rightly so.

Something is wrong with the players mentality when you can produce top draw performances at home and be so abject away from home.

Your team simply does not work hard enough away from home. too often they assume due to their talent they will win against likes of cardiff and sunderland but those teams will always commit and give their best and you have to make things hard for them.

Your where you are because of lack of workrate through a whole away game. Need to show more leadership when kompany not their. manager to blame for this as well in my view.

Wow. Not sure what else to say really. 4 in a row against you lot now, who'd have thought it? These annual visits to your forum are becoming a thing of tradition for me now... Cheers for the 3 points today, MUCH appreciated! ;) :)

Here's an idea mate....why not effin try as hard against the other top 6 teams? I really hope you lot go down.

Had a clear goal disallowed against Arsenal, would have brought it back to 2-2, might have changed that result... Should have beat your city rivals, probably would have but for Januzaj, Rooney & RVP both asleep that day... You know what they say, when it rains it pours...

Personally think Poyet will get us playing football again, has definitely started to, hope it's enough to secure our safety come May but we'll just have to see...

Yeah, lots of football from your lot today, reminded me a bit of the Ajax early 70's total football....not. A bit like the football you played at Hull last week as well? Frankly, Sunderland are tedious to watch.
