I think its a fantastic signing,although 32,he's as fit as a fiddle and still has good years left in him.......but fucking hell they're paying top dollar for it.......moneybags Sunderland eh?

The thing with Defoe is he needs a complete top squad around him to do anything.
Even then he does not cross or go looking for the ball. He is anonymous 80% of the time to boot.
Sunderland need a worker not a lazy poacher who will not put a shift in. Yeah he will burst his bollocks the few first matches but he will quickly revert back to a useless turd of a player.
He can't adapt his position across the front line at all either or beat a man. Any defence worth a damn will shut him down with little hassle.
Oh his head drops far to easily also.

Fletcher is a better player but with no service what can he do?
I know this, he will put more of a shift in than defoe.

If they paid 10mil and 40k a week i would probably say nowt but he is just shite and 80 grand a weeks worth of shite at that.

I would be astounded if Sunderland forked out £14M as well,especially for a 32 year old.
I suppose the argument to that would be,if they stay up,then money well spent.

He is at Sunderlands level as a poacher. Just read the comments about him by TFC fans though.
When i say his head drops the match after he found out no Brazil was just about his last.
He then got "injured" for a large chunk of the remaining fixtures. Came back to the uk and ignored the club that pays him.

If you have other able strikers and attack minded midfielders with a real good eye and pass he will do ok. Now if you don't have that great setup you need to do more than goal hang and he can't.
Apart from what else i have said he is dire from outside the box, his skillset is just to small to adapt from being a "fox in the box"
Strong early challenge and one miss and he see's his arse to often and does nowt.

If he is anything like a success at sunderland i will hold my hands up fair and square, i just don't see it chaps.
