Super League Aftermath.

People who have a connection with..

The rags
The scousers
Real Madrid
Barcelona
The German rags

It's obvious ;)

And nihilists.

I am firmly in the "better the devil you know" camp and anything proposed by Juventus, Barcelona and fucking Real Madrid for Christ's sake (obviously with the connivance of the other usual suspects) should be thrown out without a moment's hesitation.

I see , you are a supporter of the corrupt Uefa . Might put your hand on your heart when the Uefa anthem starts, lad.

I assume we are still talking about a ESL so you can't have UEFA co-efficient points as the basis. UEFA is corrupt anyway, so who would you have setting the rules for the co-efficient?
I wasn't so much advocating this, as trying to understand what @Nihilist was looking for as a measure of quality teams

i revisited this thread with a new view about the super league

i think there is something in the pipe line about a new tv deal for uefa champions league and premier league games being shown live on the internet with the new sky glass ? i heard a story that sky will open talks with clubs about a new deal that will involve the internet and sky in 3 years time

it may come down to sky selling its rights to a open market with the big internet companies in allowing them to show sky channels on their sites and sky doing the same on there's. so the need for a super league maybe in the bin for good

Yeah, it's not easy, and probably why UEFA keep tweaking it. So basically qualification based on their UEFA co-efficient points position? Top 32 = CL, next 32 = EL etc?
Their CL co-efficient should count when comes to CL (right now a team's co-efficient is based on how well they do in all european competitions) , also the league in which they play how well it does in the CL. If PL teams keep reaching the CL semis that is proof enough that the PL deserves more spots and better pot when the CL groups are being drawn.
You can also have play-offs.
If Lille is good enough to win a play-off vs the 5th spot in the PL then , by all means , you can say they qualified on merit.

But isn't that the same closed shop that most opposed to the ESL object to. You can only gain qualifying points if you're in the CL and can only get in if you win a play off game, then immediately drop out again because all the original clubs will always have more CL 'points' than you?

Maybe if they pay me i'll do a proper assesment of the quality criteria. I'm just a football fan that wants to watch the best teams in Europe playing in the CL not the champions of every country getting a shot at the CL group stage.

The assesment should be made based on their results when they actually compete in the CL. Lille, as a newcomer , getting treated as 1st pot quality team is definitely wrong, they only proved themselvs in the french league , a low tire competition.
but how are you assessing "the best teams in Europe"? show me a list of the best teams in Europe 50, 40, 30 and 20 years ago. would they be the same teams? they would not. football moves in cycles, ups and downs. there is nothing wrong in clubs moving up the leagues and claiming a place in the top table of euro footy, and there is nothing wrong in letting a top team fall as low as they need to go to change their ways and become good again.

what is wrong is artificially elevating teams to a level above most other teams can reach, ever... no matter how shit they become.

to find the best teams, isnt that what leagues are for? to bring the best teams to the top... and isn't challenging other leagues best teams the just reward for winning your own league?

As I said , for teams that havent been in the CL there can be play-offs. Doesn't have to be a "closed shop" but you have to be quality to get in. Its not deep.
