Super League - Positives only!

Maybe they'll add bonus points and incentives for goals scored, and maybe no points for a nil-nil draw to encourage attacking football. Positives from me is that it's an eff you uefa. The club is recognised as established in the elite clubs. Negative from me is it is likely to bankrupt a lot of clubs.

Bayern and PSG wants to keep things how they were.

Bayern won something like 8 titles in a row, PSG won 8 out of last 9.

they have absolute zero domestic competition that could really hurt them, even if they have a shit season they only win the league by 5 points and not the usual 20-25.

No consequence, no real competition makes for a dull sport. US football completely sterile. Most excitement generated on Draft Day. Even the Superbowl finale is a big yawn, the most interest being generated by half time performers and their unintended wardrobe malfunctions. Sorry but the only positive I can see is that football might be restructured more fairly
I have a feeling that what they are after all along is a restructuring, a message to UEFA that the current set up isn't good enough and something needs to be done. A bit of posturing if you like, to say "if you're not going to change it this is what could happen", to force UEFA to come up with something a bit different.

If, as Real Madrid have said, it's about the fact that revenue and audeinces are falling and it's something that can be addressed if somebody will, then it's understanable. No business wants a model that's not that efficient, especially if they've just lost £340 million in the pandemic.

Were they ever serious about going ahead? Well if they were, the timing is really off. Why announce it when three of the six are in the finals of the CL, knowing that there might be some sort of comeback? If it had been down top me I would have waited until at least after the CL had been completed, and after the new CL format had been announced and everybody had had a good moan about that.

Mostly my opinion is fuck Uefa, let's do this but what really kills the whole thing for me is the lack of promotion and relegation, it's a ridiculous concept like that.

I feel more people would soften to it there was promotion and relegation
Yes, my thoughts in a nutshell and I think the whole thing is an stunt, for want of a better word, to get UEFA to come up with something else. Because it surely must have been obvious that it couldn't happen without something giving way, and they're not going to risk getting thrown out of everything else, or years of expensive legal battles to sort it out.

Notable too that the Prem League meeting haven't turned round and said "We're kicking you out".

I’m not trying to start a thread for the sake of it, it’s clear as day how we feel.

We all know the downside, so let’s keep them to the other threads.

But to play devils advocate, what are the actual positives here?
One I can think of is the broadcasters need a kick up the arse.

It’s 2021 and we still cannot watch 4K premier league football or champs league thanks to sky and bt. We’re being charged a fortune for a last gen experience.

Will this prompt referee reform?

interested to hear some reasoned thoughts. If that’s too much of an ask, please leave this post to those willing to have a reasoned discussion about this.
Here's a positive. Now us and Chelsea have scuppered this shit idea, the American owners, bankrupt Spanish clubs and fucking Spurs will have to think of something else to refinance their limited or failing projects. The players that were going to cost £150-200m in the summer are now going for less than 100m.
