Support band you saw that blew away the headliner

I always saythat The Prodigy were the best band on the day by a mile

We were in the queue to stock up for beer before Oasis came on

When we looked round and saw 120,000 pairs of hands in the air for Voodoo People we were all like - we need to be in amongst that!!
They were awesome that day and I remember initially being disappointed that they were on the Saturday and The Charlatans were on the Sunday........but The Prodigy were immense

Other than that, not that they blew the headline act away, but around 2002ish, supporting The Charlatans were a band called The Music.

The energy and the tunes of the band made me buy their debut album and I wasn't disappointed

Although saying that, they disappeared off a cliff!!

But I always remember seeing them initially and they were superb

I was the same regarding the charlatans! I’d always been a fan, was never into the prodigy but knew of them obv! But that set was a game changer the sheer intensity of their set was on another level it was epic!

Adam Granduciel main man in The War on Drugs has produced Sam Fender’s new album, should be a great gig.

TP&TH became one of the world’s great live bands.

Nils did join one of the greatest live bands and his guitar solo spot in “Because The Night” is just one of the most spine tingling things you can see at a gig.

Southside Johnny & The Asbury Jukes supporting Graham Parker and The Rumour at the Palace Theatre

The Water Boys supporting U2 at The Apollo

Queen supporting Mott The Hoople although MTH were great

Mink Deville supporting Dr Feelgood at The Free trade hall, again DF were also good

Widowmaker supporting Nazareth at The Free Trade Hall, hated Nazareth so Widowmaker we’re onto a winner!

I might be completely in the minority here but that was the first time i saw Bowie and i have this sentimental attachment to that album, there are far worse albums in the Bowie discography with 'Tonight' being the prime example and i've never warmed to 'Let's Dance'. The greatest hits show 3 years later at Maine Road was a great night out as well.

Was at the SSJ V Graham Parker gig...close call though.
Also of thet era I recall seeing The Cramps doing a great 'follow that' gig at the Free Trade Hall...supporting THe Police.

Thank you! Widowmaker came up in a conversation recently about bassist Bob Daisley who went on to Ozzy's Blizzard Of Oz, and Luther Grosvenor aka Ariel Bender of Mott. Said I had seen them supporting some band at the FTH, but couldn't recall who. Nazareth. Cheers. :-)

Your welcome, I really liked the first album but Steve Ellis left before the second so I never listened to it.
 
Late 1978, I went to see the Tom Robinson Band at the Manchester Apollo with a mate. Stood with pint in hand in the bar, we noticed that people were beginning to file out to watch the support, a band completely unknown outside their native Northern Ireland. That band was Stiff Little Fingers and their performance that night still ranks alongside the best I've ever seen. A year later, their debut album, Inflammable Material, was released and the rest is history as they say.

I was also at that Police gig and yes, The Cramps were fucking out of this world! I'll never forget Lux Interior climbing into the audience. By comparison, The Police felt incredibly safe and boring afterwards.
