Lee Bradbury's home town.
Noel Gallagher apparently said the other day that he will not be raising his children to be city fans as he believes you should support a team close to where you are born. Fair comment.

I live on the Isle of wight and constantly battle with United and Liverpool fans saying pretty much the same thing to them.

As a City fan (originally from Longsight) i am very much in the minority here and people constantly ask why i dont support the rags. It does my head in.

The problem is, i have a little girl. Born on the Island. I am already raising her as a blue.

If/when we become successful, will she suffer the same abuse as united/liverpool fans from the south of england?

Am i wrong to push City onto her? It would break my heart if she were to support anyone else. Should i be encouraging her to support the likes of Pompey or Southampton?

I am from a long line of blues and do not want to break the chain.

Any thoughts?

I am not having these thoughts just because of what Noel Gallagher sez by the way. I am a fan of Oasis, but the man is a fool at times.

The difference is, she'll be supporting City because of a genuine link, not because it's the cool thing to do.

Definitely. Keep it in the family.

(Nothing wrong with supporting a team that's not your local one by the way... unless its the Rags)

If you intend to actively support City throughout your kid's childhood and inlcude her in it by taking her to games whenever possible, then you're doing the right thing.

But if you intend to just pack it all in and only follow them on the TV, then I can see the argument for letting her follow a team closer to home so that she can experience it for real (although that's probably not as easy as it sounds due to you living on the island).

For example, if I lived in London and couldn't be arsed to go up to Manchester for the occasional match, it'd be wrong to force City onto my kid cos he'd miss out on everything it means to be a proper fan just cos his dad was a lazy shit!! Would be much better for him to follow one of the local cockney sides and he could go with his mates then.

Doesn't matter where you're from ...... MCFC is the way to go ...... choose anyone else and you'll be inferior!

There is NO better club to follow ..... anywhere!

Why settle for milk when you can have cream?

Why ride the waltzers when you can ride the 'Big One'?

We're a bit stuck just now as the wife is expecting our first in September, so do we go for.....

City - my team and I have my season ticket

Dunfermline Athletic - her team and she has a season ticket there (we never see each other at weekends...........)

Hibernian - bearing in mind the view from the kid's room is the penalty area and one of the goals at Easter Road, doesn't get much more local

Poor child will just be confused

If she's into football, i'd make her support City first off, but take her to local matches as well (not Portsmouth though).
