Supporting your local team.

Born Crumpsall but lived first 11 years in Alkrington.

As the crow flies I think Oldham would have been the closest team but Alkrington felt no affiliation with the town of Oldham whatsoever.

The rags were closer to my place of birth but I was never going to support them. Too boring.

Take her to see Pompey, Southampton and Us and let her choose. If she's got any sense she will choose us, if she chooses Pompey or Southampton then i would seriously consider either foster home or boarding school.

Being a City fan is about a lot more than where you live!! That is total crap what he has wrote, I am an Oasis fan but I hate the way they slag of our Great city!! They are both turnips!!!

My 2 boys will support the blues whereever in the world we live!!! City till I die!!!

Noel Gallagher apparently said the other day that he will not be raising his children to be city fans as he believes you should support a team close to where you are born. Fair comment.

I live on the Isle of wight and constantly battle with United and Liverpool fans saying pretty much the same thing to them.

As a City fan (originally from Longsight) i am very much in the minority here and people constantly ask why i dont support the rags. It does my head in.

The problem is, i have a little girl. Born on the Island. I am already raising her as a blue.

If/when we become successful, will she suffer the same abuse as united/liverpool fans from the south of england?

Am i wrong to push City onto her? It would break my heart if she were to support anyone else. Should i be encouraging her to support the likes of Pompey or Southampton?

I am from a long line of blues and do not want to break the chain.

Any thoughts?
letting her support any other club would be tantamount to child abuse in my book.I have seven year old and a four year old and the pride and joy of singing city songs together is beautiful

I like Johnny Marrs story from this site

My five year old son told me he had fallen out with his best friend about City and United. We'd just been relegated to Division Two and United were winning everything, so I thought about it and decided to have a father and son talk. I said "You've decided to follow a team that's not going to be on television much over the next few years and it's going to be tough". I bit my lip, took a gulp and said "If you like, you can even support United". He looked at me in horror and spat out "but Dad, I could support Arsenal, I could support Newcastle, but I can't support United". I just thought put a tag on his toe, he's a Blue for life.
