Sven as our manager.

We were living a dream for the first few months of the season, Micah was in world class form and Johnson was being branded the new Colin Bell, specifically remember being able to say to my mate and properly mean it 'it's good to be a city fan at the moment', and my rag mate even wanted Sven to be fergie's replacement. Just a shame we got sussed out and it sort of fell apart, would've loved a second season.

Cheers Jack :)

Lost in translation, I meant other fans (not city fans) came on saying how he did nothing.

Anyway, look forward to hearing all your opinions

Cheers
Joe

Hi Joe, I really like Sven - he always behaved with dignity, and I felt he gave our club a lot of excitement back after the lethargy and dullness of the Pearce era. He inherited a poor squad and spent £35M and at one stage looked like he might get us top 4 (until half way through the season when we started to fade). He was treated like absolute shit by our owner at the time, and behaved with absolute dignity even then. Due to Sven being there I hope LCFC get promoted this season, and given what you have spent it looks very possible

I thought sven was a quality manager, all you have to do is look at his record from other Clubs.
cant go off the England thing because Enland are England.
At City he brought the team together and signed some quality which we hadnt seen for a long time.
i wish we gave him more time imo, i thought he would of won us something and if he had the money we have now, who knows, we might be looking at a couple or three trophies today.
The only thing about sven was you have to lock your wife in the house when he is about.
Oh Nancy.

Technically it only went well for 4 months and that includes the fact we couldnt win away from home during that time. After that we struggled to win at home and were dog shit. If Sven was a good manager then so Was Phil Brown as he managed a good 4 months then after xmas made it impossible for his team to win

Thats over the top i know but Sven does get a little bit too much credit from City fans

His away record was better than Hughes who follwed immediately after him and had a f***load more money to spend. Another one of the Sven myths that won't seem to die.

Um i never compared Sven to anyone, i said HIS away record was poor, yes Hughes record was poor as well but that makes no odds to my argument other than something we already knew which is Sven is a better manager than Hughes. Are away record was shit and thats it really we won 4 games away from home. We won 15 games in total and 10 of them were before xmas. If you want a Sven myth, how about the Myth he got us into Europe

lol, have never heard that one tbh although the style of play he preferred probably did help in a small way.

Considering what had gone immediately before him he did well and his away record was about on par for where we were at the time, I only mentioned Hughes to give a comparison of the level we were at.

My only gripe with Sven was he brought in 3 or 4 shit players for quite large amounts of money. (Benjani, Castillo, Caicedo, Bianchi) who all really failed to make an impact apart from one significant derby day goal. Some of his signings may flop but most will no doubt impress.

The only thing i disagree with is "quite large amounts of money" and that Caicedo is a shit player. He´s not and weren't shit while playing for us either. He was 19-20 when he arrived and scored 5 goals in hes second season with us. Cant really demand a miracle from such a young kid. Played less matches than Balotelli who scored 6 and you wouldn't call him shit, or? Of course Balotelli is better, but still. Sold this summer for 9 million, so he did have potential.

Correct me if im wrong, this is what i remember.
Castillo - loan, 3 million loan-fee, paid by the player himself (right?)
Benjani - didnt we end up paying something about 4.5 million and only put up 1,5 at first (the rest depended on matches and such things).
Bianchi - horribly buy, scouted from Youtube and videos. Stupid buy.

I'm a Caicedo fan. Look through my older posts, I've always stuck up for him. But, under Sven in that season, he wasn't good at all. And, at the time, £6m was quite steep. Benjani cost about £4-5m all together, again, at the time, that's still a lot and to think we offered him a large wage to get him away from Pompey. Bianchi, didn't fit the bill at all. That's about £20m wasted.

Began his reign with an impressive 2-0 at West Ham. Ended it with the dismal 8-1 shambles at 'Boro. Sandwiched in between was a league double against the rags. Sums it all up really... a mixed bag.

I've noticed the lack of a plan B. But given a pre-season I think he's worked one out.
