Swansea (a) Post Match Thread

Its ridiculous thats a goal every 4.79 minutes..only in unprofesional football and thats if its ever happened

18-0 will do it for them - assuming the obligatory 10 minutes injury time, that's only goal every 5.6 mins. Time to panic ...

Otamendi emerges with no credit at all from today or the season as a whole.

Can't pass, gives away stupid free kicks and out of position way too often. A big disappointment overall.

In addition to spending half the game on his arse.

Haha, mate, that is pretty much the conversation I've just had. Felt like throwing the TV through the fucking window.

I disagree about Nacho though, it was only a game as bad as last week against Arsenal, lol - he's got great promise but just so raw at the moment.

I think Nacho has been mismanaged. He's too young for us to be relying on him from the start in big games. He was a player to bring on for 20-30 mins.

Our owner must have known we had Pep in the bag and I respect the decision that they thought Pellegrini deserved to see out his final year and they trusted him to do so comfortably I suspect. I think scraping 4th on the final day of the season was not in their thinking as they probably thought a good talking to after last season and what he achieved in his first was enough to trust him.

I think this season has brought 2013-2014 into perspective as many of the character traits which have failed us over the last two seasons were present as far back as then. Many spotted it back then but many more missed it, but as the months passed by and turned into seasons it's all became glaringly clear we were tactically regressing from day one.

He's gone now, but some how I feel the polarised opinions of his tenure will continue to cause debate and divide.

Anyone that knows their football knows that the last 18 months have been unacceptable. But a quality manager can even make a difference with the same players. Just look at the impact Klopp has had a Lpool.

Hopefully Pep will clear out the deadwood and we can push on next season. But with the amount of players required the title may be a big ask next season. But fingers crossed.

What, when we still had Sinclair, Rodwell, Garcia, Micah, Lescott and Maicon?

Don't think so.. Lol :-)

I think you know the point I am trying to make, but your blinded by your views on him. Our squad has weakened over his tenure, Age, recurring injuries and attitude have been the main factors, but you carry on blaming the manager if it makes you feel better.

This place is going to be hilarious next season

That's stating the obvious, lol.

The guy has had to spend majority of season watching Pony play ahead of him, then suddenly becomes our go-to-guy for the last few games. Too much too early, plus very difficult for a lad like Nacho to play alongside Sergio.

Job done-we'd have settled for that if it was to win the PL. Glad all are OK at the Swamp where it was
just another normal match day where 180000 turned up and saw no football played

One of Mangala or Otamendi has got to go. I just think for all his lapses, Otamendi is far more comfortable in possession. I shit myself whenever Mangala's got the ball, regardless of whether he's under pressure or not

What the hell is up with Aguero these days?
He's fed up... he's often the lone striker, and we're playing a lot of long balls up to him - against 6'4 defenders, or we're trying to play Hollywood style passes that 90% of the time just won't get through a decent defence.

He's started coming deeper and deeper to get the ball himself, but by then, there's nobody in the middle - so it's self defeating.

In my view, he's so desperate to have more of the ball, that when he gets it, he's trying too hard and taking on far too many defenders and losing the ball. I'm oversimplifying things I know, but that's my general opinion.
For him to be effective in the middle, he needs great supply, and he's just not getting enough of that. There's probably only KdB and Silva capable of thinking on his level.

That's my take too.

Honestly mate, all you have to do is compare and contrast our squad list with the rest of the Premier League and which ever way I look at it, we still come out with the strongest. What we are lacking is down to a manager who has failed to get the sum of the parts available to him, imo it's as simple as that.

At what point were we clinging on today

We were clinging on to 4th place prior to kick off, and only just got there by full time. That's clinging on in my book. You're looking at it from a micro level of us dominating in the game, I'm looking at it from a macro level that it came down to the last game was therefore clinging on to 4th in the final game. Ultimately were just one goal from Swansea away from not making top 4. That's cutting it way too fine for my liking.

Even during the game, the last half hour was us settling for a draw. Yes we were the better side all game, but to me, playing for a draw In the last 30 mins) to scrape into the top 4 is clinging on.
