Sycamore Gap tree felled | Man in his 60s also arrested

Aren’t you the bloke who gets by on about a tenner a week in non-essential spends?

Amazing how it stretches to getting you all round the country visiting all these remote areas of the countryside.
What a silly thing to say.

I split my time between a coastal AONB in Wales and the Peak District and yes believe it or not when walking or cycling in these areas it does cost next to nothing.

Through previous work and ongoing voluntary work I also have numerous contacts in various organisations in these areas responsible for the stewardship of the land, National Trust, Peak National Park Authority, United Utilities, NRW, CADW to name a few and all confirm exactly what I've been saying about the huge increase in visitor numbers and corresponding increase in the numerous issues I've already highlighted.

Anything else I can help clear up for you? Or have you finished making a tit of yourself with irrelevant contributions to the discussion?

Nah, you’ve cleared up that you’re a supercilious twat very well thanks.

Mate, I’m not debating with an idiot. Waste of both our time.
And there's me thinking you're not prepared to continue debating the subject with me because you realised you were talking shit and had no way of coherently demonstrating otherwise.

It was the fact that it looked like a clean cut that made me suspect it involved someone experienced.
I'm with you on that. It's not easy felling a tree. The notch looks a decent cut, it's easy to go too deep, and the felling cut is smooth and clean. Done quickly in one go too, you can see by how little of the trunk has broken at the end as it fell. Staying that close to cut that far takes some balls, which suggests an experienced individual ( or they're just 'kin stupid)
Not a small tree either, you'd need a decent sized bar, not a 12" one you'd pick up at B&Q.
I'm doubtful that a 16 yo has got the tools or the experience to do a job of that quality.

still so fucking angry about this today. In a forest a tree blends in with other trees - like its camouflaging itself - but this tree stood alone for 3 centuries tall and proud and in an unforgiving environment. It probably owes its very existence to that V shaped valley that it filled so magnificently and yet one moronic act demonstrated its vulnerability and it acts as a metaphor for what is happening to nature around the country and indeed around the world.

It might survive yet!
