Sycamore Gap tree felled | Man in his 60s also arrested

I'm with you on that. It's not easy felling a tree. The notch looks a decent cut, it's easy to go too deep, and the felling cut is smooth and clean. Done quickly in one go too, you can see by how little of the trunk has broken at the end as it fell. Staying that close to cut that far takes some balls, which suggests an experienced individual ( or they're just 'kin stupid)
Not a small tree either, you'd need a decent sized bar, not a 12" one you'd pick up at B&Q.
I'm doubtful that a 16 yo has got the tools or the experience to do a job of that quality.

they could shape that into a nice throne, people would come from miles around to sit on it and take a splendid selfie , you could even flaten one of the humps and have a road leading straight to it with a burger king,so all the hungry people could get some food,in the other hump you could hollow it out and people could put all the rubbish in it,keeping the countryside nice and tidy, think that young lad might of done us a favour, on second thoughts the tree could be whittled down and made into two giant nipples and placed on each hill, titty gap now that would be worth walking to see.

And there's me thinking you're not prepared to continue debating the subject with me because you realised you were talking shit and had no way of coherently demonstrating otherwise.
Well if you want to debate the subject of this thread which is 'the cutting down of an ancient tree in sycamore gap' rather than the one you want to debate which appears to be 'litter in the countryside post covid is caused by mouth breathing social media users' then I might just bite. Otherwise my previous comment stands.

Maybe the 16 year old is a patsy. Lesser charges and all that.
I’m sure he’s not the only person who was involved. The logistics of getting a large powerful chainsaw in the dark to a location half a mile from the nearest road by someone not old enough to legally drive suggests he wasn’t alone. That’s even without considering the apparent expertise of the cut.

Yeah, agree. It all looks far too professional for a 16 year old. No way he has been on his own.
