We have a number of squad players that seem to be disillusioned, mainly because they were first team players not so long ago. It makes sense to let them go and bring in either older or much younger players that are satisfied being on the fringes. We've already started that process by bringing in Taylor and letting Hart go on loan.

I think we could see Dunne, Petrov, Ben haim, Benjani & Garrido all leave this week and 3 or 4 back up players come in.

If we don't get another CB in addition to Lescott, I say we keep Dunne if he is happy being 5th choice behind Toure, Ned, Lescott and Kompany. TBH can leave, as well as Benjani and Garrido of course. All we need is a great central midfielder to give Barry and Ireland some cover, and we should be set. That central midfielder is crucial though, as any long term absence of Barry/Ireland (or both) is a disaster for us without good cover. We have great cover on the rest of the positions of the pitch, and central midfield is the heart of the team, so good cover there is absolutely crucial.

What about De Jong, Komapany and Michael Johnson ?

De Jong will play most of the games in the 3-man central midfield. But where is the offensive firepower when Barry and Ireland are out? Kompany, Johnson, Zabaleta can't be trusted to give our forwards the necessary goal-scoring opportunities. And I don't want to see SWP or Robinho being played out of position as some sort of central playmaker. We need a central midfielder, period.

According to "El Mundo Deportivo", Sylvinho has signed a one yearl deal contract. <a class="postlink" href="http://www.elmundodeportivo.es/gen/20090824/53770875348/noticia/sylvinho-firma-por-una-temporada-con-el-city.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.elmundodeportivo.es/gen/2009 ... -city.html</a>

He´s 35, but it´s a very proffesional player and you'd think he was much younger. Good signing for us.
broken link, hmmmm.

city tend to do that when players sign, release a statement then delete it again right before he signs, then put up a new one.

Re: Sylvinho

I think this is a great signing if he does sign, Great back-up for Bridge and I was very impressed with him in the champions league final, He is still very fit at 35.

english translation (that works):

Sylvinho signed for one season with the City

Former Barca side and his agent, Sostres, closed yesterday at the signing Manchester

Sylvio Mendes has managed to grow the market as anyone. The Brazilian, 35, which ended in June contract with FC Barcelona, yesterday signed contract by Manchester City for a while. Head in the final stretch of the historic campaign of the triplet in such important events as the final of the Champions League, Sylvinho will play on a team's highest aspirations through their patience.

The City is, after Real Madrid, the club that has spent this summer on the international scene. In fact, it is still trying to be further strengthened to fight, once and for all, at the top of the Premier League. Sylvinho is, of course, its cheaper signing after investing nearly 120 million in Adebayor (Arsenal), Tevez (Manchester United), Barry (Aston Villa) or Santa Cruz (Blackburn). Sylvinho not cost him a euro and the former Barcelona ensures the side of proven professionalism and a very steady performance, which also has the advantage of having already played in the Premier League with Arsenal.

The signing of Sylvinho by Manchester City has been very rapid. The English team took last week's visit to Barcelona to play the Gamper to contact the agent side, Ramon Sostres, and lay the foundations for an agreement that took shape on Thursday and yesterday took the role. Both the defense and were Sostres himself in Manchester yesterday to seal the deal. After six years with Corinthians, two at Arsenal and three at Celta, Sylvinho joined Barça for one million euros to be five seasons in which, without being regular in the lineup, he collaborated in the conquest of three League Two Champions League, the Copa del Rey and a Super Cup.

Earrings Puyol

Sostres's visit to Manchester surely led to a new survey by the City on the status of Carles Puyol, given that the agent also represents the Barca captain. A one year ahead of contract end, Puyol has yet to respond to the offer of renewal of Barca. For its part, the City wants to central and thus they are very close to signing Joleon Lescott, Everton.
