Escalation mate escalation, this has been coming for years ever since the Israelis gave out good thrashigs in Yom Kippur(SP) and other wars, the jihadists feel strong now especially with wet arses all over the world backing them morally

Could you possibly explain in layman's terms exactly what bearing a war in 1973 has on the current crisis in Syria?
And also what the fuck you actually mean about 'wet arses backing jihadists morally', because even by your standards this is incomprehensible gibberish.
NO as i have just taken a double dose of my medication and i am seeing double, i also have to get the clinkers out of the dogs arse so i dont want any accidents while in such a state, must hurry now its whimpering, it also has a wet arse, chin chin toodle pip and all that

You must be joking mate.
Their trappist beers are the best in the world.
I'd go for Switzerland personally.
Never liked the shifty neutral fuckers.
I know a very good brewery in Cumbria that makes some fine Trappist beers, I'd be happy with a two pronged attack though.

Here is a transcript of President Assad's interview this week. Really eye-opening stuff. I know he doesn't have a perfect past, but his family has done quite well in keeping Alawites, Christians, Sunni's, and Druids from murdering each other. I think we can safely assume that would change should a radical Shia take over.
Alawites are Shia (Shiites) and are already in power. Assad is an Alawite, a Shiite (Shia Islam). Also, you mean Druze, not Druids.

Are you sure, those Druids still have much power.

They are kind of Shia , but it's a very strange sect that takes in a bit of everything

<a class="postlink" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alawites" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alawites</a>

Explains it all better than I can

The bigger picture in all of this is Iran, take Syria out of the picture and Iran is pretty much isolated, something the Gulf Arab states would be more than happy with

As another poster stated, Alawites are not the same Shia as the radical jihadists. It's not a major difference in theology, but due to the distance that existed between northwest Syria Alawites and other Shia in Persia for example, a rift was formed that separated the two. The Alawites have seen a lot of persecution over the last thousand years and will fight to the end in order to have Al-Nusra and Muslim Brotherhood backed foreign Shia out of their country.
And you are technically correct, they are called the Druze. However, British agents in Syria began to use the words Druids and Druze interchangeably in order to facilitate a common bond with the Syrian Druze to counteract French influence in the area. To this day, you still see some newspaper and magazine articles refer to the Druids as Druze. I will make a note to not do so in the future :)

Due to go to Cyprus in a couple of weeks for my mates wedding! I can imagine the forces will be using Cyprus quite a bit if we take action in Syria. Better take a good look at the insurance! :-/

No Ducado did not point that out, I'm pretty sure he will know that the radical jihadists you refer to are NOT Shia. Not that his link proved much. The very first sentence is:
The Alawites, also known as Alawis (ʿAlawīyyah Arabic: علوية) are a prominent mystical religious group centred in Syria who follow a branch of the Twelver school of Shia Islam.
He also failed to detail how they weren't Shia. He just said they were a strange sect, which may well be true, but he did not elaborate. Assad's allies i.e. Iran and Hezbollah, are Shia. Al Nusra and Muslim Brotherhood ARE Sunni NOT Shia. Alawites are Shia. The conflict is part of the ongoing Shia-Sunni power struggle that happens all over the Middle East.

Omfg. Complete brain fart. I was up researching all this last night and got twisted about the background of the Muslim Brotherhood. My bad. :)

And a power struggle that has been ebbing and flowing for a long time

I have met plenty of Druze, in Israel, nice people, I beleive their religion is complex and mixes in bits of Neoplatonism and Pythagoreanism (but they don't talk about it much), they are fiercely independent and make bloody good soldiers (quite a few serve in the IDF) all the blokes seemed to be called Whalide

It's a mess in Syria, and who knows that will happen, but in a way it was going to happen sooner or latter with a minority sect ruling , I just hope Syria comes out the other side, a fascinating country by all accounts

And Damascus being one of the oldest populated city in the world.

It may be a bit off topic, but Manchester has a connection with the Old Syrian Jewish Community, many of the now extinct Syrian Jewish Community were merchants and many set up buisiness as cotton merchants in Manchester, and there is still a Syrian synagogue, although numbers are much reduced as the main community now lives in the US and Israel

Norval Marley the father of Bob Marley was British and of Syrian Jewish ancestry so I am told
