Tackling Is Dead

There is no point playing football anymore if you cant go in for a challenge win the ball completly take none of the man and then get sent off.

Disgrace.

It was Nani, if the wind from Vinnie's foot went near him he would have gone over crying. He turns round to win the ball back.

It wont get overturned.

to Nanis credit he knew it was fair tackle, he could have gone down but did like you say stay on his feet and chase back. wasnt until Rooney got in the refs face that he actually stopped the game. the more and more you watch it looks a better tackle every time. infact the tackle where Jones whacked Nasri i think in the calf didnt even get a card. it was blatant and was the tackle from behind by Giggs, a tackle from behind like that surely warrented a yellow.

i went to see my local team Grimsby Town v Lincoln City on NYD in the conference, and i can tell you that tackling isnt dead. it was blood and thunder all day and some of the tackles going in were old school, no diving, no one rolling around with theatricals. there was a sending off but that is going to appeal because it seemed to be bit of afters that wasnt. but overall the ref let it flow and it was great. if it had been a prem game i kid you not it would have been down to a 5 a side game. unfortunately the football didnt match the passion for me.

Torquay fan and a ref in peace. I also kind of support Liverpool, so I was supporting City today.

However, I have to say I thought the red card was correct. Watch Kompany's right foot. If it impacts Nani at that angle, with studs showing, with that force, it's doing him some serious damage. It was only luck that contact was minimal. Law 12 states that
A tackle that endangers the safety of an opponent must be sanctioned as
serious foul play.

Given that it was by pure luck that Kompany's studs did not have heavier contact with Nani, I have to agree that when he made the tackle, he endangered the safety of his opponent.

I also think that some of the things you've said about Chris Foy are disgraceful - like telling someone to 'bomb his car'. I don't believe he made a mistake, but even if he did, it would be an honest one - no different to Silva missing an open goal in the 90th minute. If you had lost 3-2, with no red card, but Silva had missed an open goal from 2 yards out in the 90th minute, would you advise each other to bomb his car?

If I could advise Mancini, I would advise him not to bother appealing - any appeal is doomed to fail. The commission will take an even less human view of it than Chris Foy - they will look at it as a studs up tackle that could have broken an ankle, and will rightfully dismiss the appeal.

Feelings are obviously running high and while I disagree with your opinion that it was a red card I do agree with the above in bold and it has been dealt with.

I wouldn't say it's 'pure luck' that VK didn't make contact, more that it was an excellently timed tackle which got all of the ball and none of the man. There was no malice involved, it was a strong tackle certainly. Just an excellent one.

Totally agree re the second thing btw, horrible.

If that was against us we would be calling for the players head, lets have it right here.

I have seen em given and seen em dismissed. Im not saying it was or was not it was the refs call and he followed the letter of the law so we can't moan to much.
I do hope we get a reduction on the ban though, it's half what someone found guilty of racism to a fellow pro got ffs i find that a bit crazy.

Hopefully the tackling issue is brought into focus soon as the game is getting to overzealous regarding tackling and punishments.

Kompany didn't make ANY contact with Nani. Nani clearly thought it a fair tackle, otherwise he'd have gone down like he'd been shot as usual. The commentators were shocked at the red card. Everyone in the stadium were shocked at the red card. Every pundit I've heard (apart from Keane and Fergie) didn't think it was red. But Foy and yourself think it's right.

Tell me, are there any directives dished out to you refs that no-one else knows about? Serious question.
And if any appeal is doomed to fail then what is the point of having the system? Also, how do you come to the conclusion that it was 'pure luck'?
