A lot of smaller businesses use those little SUM UP card readers, which you can buy for about £20 and just pair up to your phone. So if it was purely about keeping sales off the books, you could quite easily do it by using of those anyway.

It's clearly something you object to.
You are supporting and helping to continue the very thing you despise. That makes no sense at all.
Why not make your business a non profit organisation.?

Card reader payments are paid to your bank, how is that off the books?

My reader sends sales to paypal, which i then transfer to my bank.

I don’t think HMRC are going to go for every business under-declaring income but the system only works if they make it appear that you could be investigated if you did so. Otherwise the level of illegality just increases over time, businesses start to abuse the trust system.

Remember this is money that goes towards education, healthcare and defence. For me it’s a bit like IPTV and streaming football and movies illegally, I don’t care if you’re doing it but I also don’t care if you’re caught.

Restaurant round our way has a card reader that mysteriously is always broke at end of month....

Big sign outside now saying its broke till end of November...a bloody card reader, that costs 20 quid nd they cant buy a new one...methinks its not only greek food they are cooking but also some books!

Must be some money going through the dishwasher to be going cash only for 8 weeks!
 
Well i pay by cash or by card, depends on the sellers own payment demands, and the mood i'm in ..... I couldn't care less where the money goes, or what they do with it after I've paid, just as long as I don't feel i got ripped off in the first place .... because if I do feel that way it's the last they ever see of me!

I'm not saying it's fool proof, if someone was vigorously investigating you. Just the same as any cash getting paid into a personal account can be questioned.

You see beggars with those SUM UP readers these days. Doubt they're paying tax on it.
