I don't mind Talksport if you take it for what it is... an advertising platform with a bit of sport banter thrown in, but it's not particularly intelligent incisive banter. But what can you expect from most former players and presenters? They offer no extra insight than the man down the pub.

Precisely.
City fans should never respond, even if it's a positive story. Even decent City fans can be put on the spot and have words twisted - it's just not worth actively supporting this type of 'journalism' (loose use of the word).

Why do people respond to their obvious war cry?

A City fan has just been on bemoaning FFP and fixture schedule. Pitiful.
There is nothing to defend. We are a fantastic team, beaten by an even more fantastic team. C'est la vie.

Of course there are weaknesses in City, there are in every team. Chelsea won a CL with a very cautious / defensive approach. We tried it, but it didn't quite pay off.

Sooner or later, we'll get lucky. Until then, we carry on and progress.
