The station must get plenty of money from the adverts so they can actually have a serious sport show instead of making football supporters ring up or text over some disingenuous site spouted from the so called presenters!

But it's all about profit.

The more profit they make, the happier the shareholders are.

And there is the problem.. That 4pm slot must get a max of around 6 callers in 3 hours piss poor..

They might only have six callers on air, but do you really think as few as that phone in?

If you do, you're very naïve.

It's not only those who appear on air that are charged; it's everyone who rings talkshite.

They could have a thousand callers an hour, but it still wouldn't be enough to pay the for the running costs of the station.
They make next to no money at all on callers. They make their money with advertising. The more callers that ring in is just proof to the advertisers that people are listening.

Hey! so they intentionally only have 2 callers come through to talk in an hour? Not having that, if they are getting loads of callers they will put them on

By the time Durham and the thick Yorkie spout their crap and they have adverts and news, etc, there's no time for more than a few callers.

If their listening figures are as high as they claim, there is no way they only receive less than ten calls per hour. And if they don't, then there would be no point in continuing with this format.

Callers are not really important to them. As the UKs only national sports dedicated radio station with a 24/7 format, it is guaranteed a high audience, and this is realised by advertisers who are only too willing to stump up for a slice of this audience. As the station's presenters slag us off, we may switch off or promise ourselves not to respond to their drivel, but for every City supporter who does listen in, there are probably 50 or more who support other clubs and they will lap up this garbage, and it may well be them who bombard the station with calls and texts, though as I say, it is really the advertising revenues they are after.

Their ad breaks contain a lot of trailers for their own shows, so they are probably not getting getting the ad revenue they potentially could.

Their views on market segmentation are falling woefully behind the reality of the modern game. They seem to still be targeting the tabloid-reading, van-driving working man who in their view lacks the cognisance with which to establish whether or not he does in fact have PPI. They are missing the quite obvious gentrification and emerging feminisation of the national sport and they need to correct this imbalance before they become even more of an anachronistic irrelevance.

I occasionally listen to it, so they're making inroads.

Being on here so much has definitely dumbed me down ;-)
