Davey is a very well accepted shorthand for David and used extensively in Glasgow, as I found when I lived there for a shirt while. As both men are Gladwegians, it's not surprising in the least to hear Brazil call him Davey, no matter how annoying it may seem.

Funny though that Brazil (nor anyone else as far as I know) ever referred to Gollum as 'Davey' the whole time he was at Everton.

Is 'for a shirt while' a euphemism for something a tad unsavoury? ;)

They know that winding people up earns them more money through people ringing and texting in to argue against them. So they either emply people who don't care about their reputation like Brazil who will side with one team, or employ expert WUMS like Durham who picks one subject and makes Gough argue one side of it while he argues the other, both in the extreme, and both to maximise winding up the listeners.

Yesterday at about midday they had a Dutch bloke on saying that David Moyes isn't a good coach, even if he's a good manager, and doesn't know how to physically train his players, even if he knows how to get them to play. And Quinny lapped it up, leaving little one liners open to wind Rags up.

I tweeted the Moose once to ask why they all refer to a player with as though they know them, like Davey today. I listed a few examples of it, and he tweeted back 'you forgot Scotty', as in Parker. They are aware they do it, and it's probably to get peoples backs up, like what's happening in this very thread.

A good job they didn't recruit Wenger then, otherwise it would be Arsie this and Arsie that...
