That's the thing though, Spurs have lost out on a top 4 spot before trying to win the EL and the best way to qualify for the Champions League is to wait for it, finish in the top 4. If they finish in the top 4 they can attract better players on a bigger budget and give themselves a better chance of winning trophies in the future. It's hardly a small club mentality to want what is best for your club.
