Taylor Harwood-Bellis - move to Southampton completed.

It’s great that we are making money, but I would like to see one or two more getting a chance - I know it’s pretty much impossible for most now. Feels like quite a few like Mcatee could be good enough, but more than likely we will never know.

Being honest it’s making me lose interest in the youth games a bit knowing most won’t get a chance. Posters will probably disagree, but for me the academy is about getting them into the first team, rather than just focusing on profit. Obviously that’s not practical or how the club views it.
I see it as about getting the occasional one into the first team first and foremost (without diluting the quality of the first team squad) and selling the rest on for profit.

Back in the day (Caton etc) when we barely had a pot to piss in, then more of them would be playing for us as it was cheaper than buying ready made quality but times have changed. You can't be domestic, european and world champions and expect every decent youth player to make it with us. Fine margins and all that.

Even if he is good enough to warrant a spot in the team we do not have the room. Also better to sell him than say Ake as its 100% also every year it seems like the youth get better there is always someone else coming up if we give him a chance then the next one is blocked unless we sell another first team player

Let's be fair we're doing pretty reasonably at the moment.
We have Foden, Lewis and Bobb in and around things.
Half the fabled classless of 92 wouldn't get a sniff these days, and bacon face only used them as a last resort anyway (just my opinion mind)

And the two best players, Giggs & Beckham were both poached (from ourselves and WHU, I think)

Credit where it's due, United produced a great set of youngsters that went on to win many trophies. Only a bitter blue would try and deny it.

Oscar Bobb is as homegrown as most their better youths from that era, Beckham was signed from spuds academy they signed Kieran Richardson from WHU can't think of anyone else came from there, they signed most their better youths players during their mid teens at 16 usually. There's defo a myth of how long most of their better youths were at the club from in that glorified youth side, like Giggs they were signed later than most would think but you'd swear they was on their books from 6 or 8 it's far from true.

Scholes is easily their best for me but if you check his youth career and there's no mention of him before signing for the rags at 16 years old, despite the fact the rags pretty much snatched him away Oldham's grasp so even he's not as homegrown as they like to claim, they enticed these youths with big offers to their parents that no other club would've given them.

Truth be told Oscar Bobb was even younger when he joined our youths than Scholes or Beckham when they joined rags youth setup, so in a sense although it's only a matter of months/weeks in either case Bobb is technically more homegrown for us, than both Scholes and Beckham ever were for the rags but this day and age people would say you got Bobb from a Norwegian team, whilst in the same breath they'd act like Beckham and Scholes are completely homegrown and completely developed by them.

Looks like Southampton won’t be going up automatically, I actually think we could probably get more than £20 million if they don’t go up at all. For all the hype about Branthwaite recently I think Harwood-Bellis is just as good. He’d be ideal for a team like Newcastle or Villa
