Teacher Training

Teach First let’s you get a teaching qualification on the job after your Uni degree.
Within 5 years of qualifying 60% have packed it in.

Actually or should I say factually, teachers contracts are 39 weeks per year as stipulated in the Burgundy Book (terms and conditions handbook for all leaders other than voluntary aided and private schools). Pay is determined by dividing the annual salary by 365 1/4 with guidance how to sort out pays rates for part time teachers, this aids reductions for unpaid leave of absence and other reasons for non payment.
I don’t think academies are required to abide by the burgundy book.

12.8% are gone after one year. In areas of poverty 1 in 4 expect to leave the profession in a year.
It’s got to be one of the hardest jobs out there now, what with it being target driven with an ever decreasing budget trying to teach classes full of kids with no discipline.

Not to mention with an increasing number of problems amongst children. There are almost daily reports about children of all ages turning up to school cold and hungry with teachers / schools feeding them. Only yesterday I was reading about teachers reporting the number of children with poor hygiene is increasing due to the level of poverty they are living in. It's all a bit of a mess really.
