Teacher Training

So after 6 weeks worth of holidays they decide to have another 2 days (monday/tuesday) off for Teacher Traning

On top of the Teacher Strikes, holidays in October & Christmas my work leave are nearly gone.

Now this is not a pop a Teachers - far from it. I was just wondering why after approx 30 working days off the powers that be need another 2 days for training?

Would it not make sence to do the training during the 6 weeks holiday and have 28 days off?
As a working parent the 2 extra days saved would have come in handy (like a City european trip)

Is anyone a Teacher or know the reason why?
CPD days are not days off, they are essential days all education sectors use to get staff clued up on new methods, regulations and curiculum changes plus it's myth teachers get the whole summer off, many will be working.

I believe they get at most 46 days off a year, term holidays amount to about 68 days in a year many so 22 days during holiday times they will be in preparing lessons.

I work in FE/HE though not schools so may be different, though I can say tutors work hard and extra hrs unpaid and are also moany fuckers ;-)

To be honest, even after 4 weeks off i would be crawling the walls at home bored sh1tless never mind 6 weeks.

I would be sitting at my desk today in the classroom in silence thinking “this is the calm before the storm”

Also ask the other Teachers if they want a big game of Manhunt (for morale purposes obviously)
How sad.

If you had kept up with the news OP you might have noticed some teachers have been at work for weeks trying to move furniture and stock to new premises because their schools are unfit to open and they want to minimise disruption to their pupils.

Would you use up your holiday entitlement to relocate your work if the building was condemned?

Ahhh another one who thinks a teachers workday is 8am till 3.30pm. They're at breaking point already, let's just take another 2 days off them

*not a teacher
Nope. I was asking a question and received reasonable responses which i was more than happy with.

These aren't two days off! They are two days in the workplace probably listening to the most boring, useless, insignificant waffle one could imagine. I never worked with anybody who preferred the 'training' days to kids in the classroom. I must have suffered dozens of these fuckin' days and there was just one half day where I placed some value on the time and that was when we had a visit to the Jewish Museum down Cheetham Hill.

Incidentally, training days are done in the holidays - they nicked a week of teachers' holidays and stuffed 'em with what they blagged was 'high quality training'! High quality my arse!

Jesus. I never said Teachers should work or lose the Holiday entitlement.
Just thought would it not be easier to complete training days during the the 6 weeks holidays?

With the responses it’s quite obvious the answer is no.
