David Beckham Tells Manchester City: You'll NEVER Be Bigger Than United

David Beckham last night warned Manchester City fans gearing up for tonight's Carling Cup derby showdown: You'll never be bigger than United.

The Old Trafford legend also vowed that if City's ambitious mega-rich owners ever tried to sign him and offered him extortionate wages, he would turn them down flat.

In a wide-ranging interview with Mirrorsport , Beckham rubbished reports he is planning to quit football after the World Cup and promised to play on until he is 40.

And he said his dream would be to finish his career with United. "That would be perfection," Beckham said.

The City hierarchy see tonight's Carling Cup final clash as one of the first steps in City's bid to topple United as Manchester's leading side but Beckham warned them that money can't buy them everything.

"I would never sign for Manchester City," he said. "That's mainly because I am a Man United fan. It doesn't matter about money. It is always about loyalty with Manchester United.

"They are the team I supported and the team that I played for for years and I just couldn't bring myself to sign for City. I couldn't do it.

"City will never be bigger than United. Money does a lot for a club and a team, but being successful and being one of the most recognised clubs in the world doesn't come from the money.

"It's about history. There aren't many clubs that can boast the history of Manchester United, Real Madrid, Barcelona or AC Milan. It's not about having all the money in the world. All that does is creates attention but you can't buy the history of a club."

Beckham, back playing for AC Milan as he aims to cement his place in Fabio Capello's England World Cup squad, has already earned rave reviews for his performances in Italy.

He was the star of Milan's recent drubbing of Juventus in Turin and played the full 90 minutes of his side's 4-0 thrashing of bottom club Siena at the San Siro.

His arrival has coincided with a Milan revival and next weekend Beckham will face Jose Mourinho's table-topping Inter side in the Milan derby.

"It's going to be a terrific match," Beckham said. "It won't be easy because Inter are a good team but there is a lot of confidence in our side at the moment."

What a tumbling, tumbling dickweed

Well thats it then our owners should just leave cause we all know beckhams the brightest lad to come out of the swamp so he must be right ;) lmfao

Neville: Fergie was right to ditch Tevez

Gary Neville says Sir Alex Ferguson was right to ditch Carlos Tevez - because the former Manchester United striker was not worth his asking price.

Tevez's advisers wanted a fee of £25million and wages of around £150,000-a-week for the player to turn his two-year loan spell into a permanent deal with United.

United's refusal to meet those demands saw Tevez take the ultimate revenge by joining bitter local rivals Manchester City, where he has flourished with 15 goals already this season.

Despite that superb return for City, and United's over-reliance on Wayne Rooney for goals this season, Red Devil Neville backed Fergie's judgement in letting Tevez go.

"I can't disagree with his [the gaffer's] decision on Tevez," said the Old Trafford skipper. "He was a good player for us, but if the financial demands are too big then that's just the way it goes.

"Other good players have left this club in the past. It's not the first time it's happened.

"The manager over the years has made many decisions with regard to players coming and going, and he has almost always been proved correct.

"Over a period of 20 years he may have got one or two wrong, and I think he's admitted that himself, but he knows exactly what he's doing and he understands when a player's time is up.

"We have the best manager in the world at putting teams together - he's done it successfully for 20 years.

"There haven't been many people who have questioned him over the years and been proved right."

United's failure to keep Tevez was more to do with their crippling financial position and inability to pay the money required, rather than Fergie's judgement call on the striker.

City, backed by the enormous wealth of owner Sheikh Mansour, have no such concerns, which has added another intriguing edge to the contest between the two rival clubs.

Neville could not resist taunting City ahead of tonight's tie, claiming all the pressure is on them because they have not won a trophy since their League Cup triumph of 1976.

United, in contrast, have enjoyed unparalleled success over the past two decades and, as such, Neville claimed they have nothing to prove, with all the pressure will be on City.

"I don't see the games as an opportunity to reassert our dominance over City," said Neville.

"We're quite comfortable with where we are.

"We're second in the league, we're in the Carling Cup semi-final and in the second phase of the Champions League, so we have nothing to prove.

"People might perceive that something is going on in Manchester between the two clubs, but we can't afford to get involved in that.

"We just need to concentrate on our jobs like we've always done.

"We've had battles with our rivals like Leeds and Liverpool over the years for the top honours, and we just concentrate on our own performance.

"The Carling Cup is a competition we have done well in over the past couple of years, and no doubt they will want to do well, too.

"It's a local derby and one of the biggest games we have played against City for a long time. Certainly we expect it to be a difficult game.

"They're in good form, and it's always difficult away against City. We will have to be at our best on Tuesday for the game at their ground.

"I've only seen one of City's games since Roberto Mancini took over as manager - their 3-0 victory against Wolves.

"It was a decent match and they definitely have quality in forward positions. Craig Bellamy has been playing well, as have Martin Petrov and Tevez, who was excellent against Wolves.

"City impressed me in that game, but I haven't seen a great deal of them."

Oh, Gary. Will you never learn?

F*CK ME! Is he still here? Beckham needs to keep his poncy face out of things

does the thick twat no know he will never get asked to sign for city, also he as obviously come out with this shit for his own benefit as per usual bearing in mind where he will be playing in a couple of weeks,so they all suck up to him.A cock of the highest order i fckin hate the prick

So much is made of 'history'. It's the future that counts, and he hasn't got it in football anymore. Yeh, finish your career at Manure Beckham as that is all they will be able to afford in the future , has beens. As for signing for City, well dream on Beckham. You wish!

I can't get the image of Nevilles face out my head when he tried really hard to hurt Vieras hand when he shook it. I hope he's playing tonight, i feel more hate towards him that usual

"Over a period of 20 years he may have got one or two wrong, and I think he's admitted that himself, but he knows exactly what he's doing and he understands when a player's time is up.

LOL at one or two. Can probably name 3 or 4 and thats just goalkeepers.
And players time is up. yeah tevez is really shit this year and Berbatov is flying.

Typical Beckham is a Utd fan, didnt he live down South and was on Spurs books at a youngster? I doubt very much our owners made him an offer.

And beckham to talk about Loyalty? Fucked off to USA when he saw the $$$$$$$ and then fucked his team off to go to Milan

"It's about history. There aren't many clubs that can boast the history of Manchester United, Real Madrid, Barcelona or AC Milan. It's not about having all the money in the world. All that does is creates attention but you can't buy the history of a club."

Tragic as it was, The Munich aircrash put Utd on the world map, and they have bought the best, paying more than any other team could untill recently. Look up "irony" David. Its Under I
