Resting as many players as possible might be the order of the day. One point at Liverpool plus every advantage going into the semi might be better than three points at Liverpool and risking tiredness or injury to Tevez, Silva, Yaya, NDJ, Kompany. Zabaleta in particular is going to be vital for the semi. If Nani is fit (and Richards isn't), he has the most important job on the pitch. If Nani isn't, Zab might be asked to stop Valencia. We have good options, Boateng at CB, Dzeko up front, Milner and Barry in the centre. It's time to make the most of the squad depth.
Resting players in a game going for our prime target of 4th place would be an interesting decision!
It would take some balls to say, (to that team) you are easily good enough to win this game, and (to himself) we are good enough to cope if you don't.
People slate him as cautious but I think he's actually a risk-taker of sorts, he plays weaker teams knowing full well he'll get slated, because it's a risk worth taking, having his best players 100% for the most important games is his top priority. There are 8 games left in the league, but only one semi-final.
To me it makes sense; whichever team we put out, I think the Liverpool game is hard to win, and the draw is the more likely result. They will be out to bounce back from WBA and they've done well against the big teams, it's the only sort of ego-boost they will get this year.
