Gerrard runs km's each game, is defensively responsible and Barry is quite defensive nowadays it seems. I think it's a myth that you need a truly 'defensive midfielder' nowadays. You got the Ballack's, Carrick's, Fletcher's etc of the two teams that finished at the top of the league play with, you don't need these Makalele or Vieira type players to succeed IMO. It's a good option to have but I don't think we need to deploy someone like De Jong every single game, especially with the possession % we'd have with that team posted above.

The biggest problem Khaldoon made is to hand Mark Hughes a 200 million to spend on less than average players ( Lescott - Kompany - Santa ) and some average players like ( De Jong- Barry )
