Tell me to get/not get a Mac

It wasn't a particularly poignant point, i was just saying that price/value is usually the major factor behind labelling someone an '(idiot) Apple fanboy'. But if the money is no object to them, they just buy it because they like to use it, then that point of view falls apart.

They might still be idiots mind...
So basically point b) so rich that you don't give a fuck. I believe I covered that one.

I'm probably edging towards a laptop.

My knowledge of computers stretches as far as installing ant-virus and avoiding viruses. I'm unsure about re-installing the operating system bi-anually. I assume it's not a dreadfully complicated process?

No it's not difficult. If you're going to do that though, make sure you put your important files on a separate partition, or back them online, or put them on an external drive. You only have to do a reinstall though if you want to keep performance at an absolute maximum. Otherwise, a good registry cleanup and defragging once every six months will do the job almost as well. I do think the above are all good practices to get into though. I do all three plus a backup on a separate hard-drive in the machine and it's all automated. The same practices are also advisable on a Mac. Time Machine is the business though. Love Time Machine, one of those really nice OS X touches.

I believe you've also blanket refereed to people with Macs as idiot fanboys a couple of times too.

No, I haven't, and I wouldn't, so put that shit to bed right now.

My wife has had a standard macbook for 3 years now with zero problems. No windows based laptop or desktop i have ever owned has come close to that kind of performance record. As a result of using her mac I will be getting one for myself (ipad2).
Whatever floats your boat regarding mac vs pc, but I won't be going back.

Haha, untie yourself and calm down.

I'll take full advantage of the fanboys and laugh

The real value, therefore, comes from exploiting idiotic Apple fanboys.

If your love for Macs leads you to overpay for second-hand Macs, yes, you're a fanboy idiot

I read those and got the impression you thought people that bought Mac's generally did so because they were idiots who wanted to pay a premium for a status symbol. Hardly a big deal if you didn't, is it?

Really? You read those and got that impression? If I wasn't distinguishing Mac users from fanboys, why would I use the word fanboys, and not just Mac users/owners. Not to mention the advice being for prospective/current Mac owners and saying it's a method used by a Mac owner I know who at no point did I call a fanboy. I struggle to see how someone could make that judgement. It'd be similar to someone calling people who smoke in the toilets at Eastlands knobheads and someone else therefore jumping to the conclusion that they're calling all City fans knobheads. Got to say, that's the sort of leap in logic that a defensive fanboy usually makes. I hope you're not one of them.

Save yourself 3-400 quid and get a laptop that will do exactly the same job. Get some decent anti-virus software... no viruses (by the way Macs do get viruses). Keep it clean... it will run fast enough.

It won't look as good but are you really that shallow?
The moment you said macs get viruses you lost all credibility because a growing number of the population now use macs and we know you don't.

Google "mac defender" :)

Google "Virus"
