Fighting facing each other (hence both peoples toes are next to each other). As opposed to the dirty rags, who fought toe to anything smaller and weaker than themselves.

Just more garbage form BollocksBlue2.0

Having been once married to a very good amateur boxer I would suggest that BB2 can say that he too has had coaching?

Because, unless you are a bit of a nutter, anybody that says that must have had some kind of tactics and discipline instilled in them.

My ex husband was a pupil of Mick Jelley from Bury. He was a "street fighter" before he met Mick. He learnt loads from that coaching.

i worked with mick jelly at bunzl flexipac he was a fitter and i was a printer. mick was a compulsive hand shaker, when ever he saw you he`ed shake your hand. unfortunately he had the sweatiest hands i`ve ever shook.

I have a seat from Maine Road in my house in Canada.
I have the last Union Jack to fly at the Failsworth pole.
I have built a cedar log home.

How did you wangle that one???? I'd have bought mine if I could have :(

My mate brought it over all taken apart. The security thought the arms were some kind of firearm. It kept them busy enough to ignore the suitcase full of pies, puds and bacon.

I am an ever dreaming mutant ape that is made out of star dust.
I live on a small lump of rock, surrounded by a thin layer of gas that sits at the bottom of a deep gravity well, hurtling through space, 90 million miles from a huge nuclear fireball.
I have not made-up any of the above.

Small world. ;-)

I used to go watching ex when he was training. Mick Jelley's Mum used to be sat there watching too.

She used to frighten me to death although I was only 17 and she must have been 70 at least.

Always found Mick a reasonable bloke though and was pleased when he finally got some recognition for decades of effort when Amir Khan went to the Olympics.

In the early 90s, I won a young sportswriter contest run by the MUEN. Prize was 500 smackers and a tour of the newsroom. I refused to shake rag correspondent David Meek's hand. Also, Enya and Clannad, the Irish singers, are my second cousins, as is Martin O'Neill's wife. Still think their music is crap.

Oh God. Just mentioned your post to my hubby (a BIG Enya/Clannad fan). He is now on a mission to dig out all her recordings tomorrow.
