Tempering the Guardiola Optimism

I don't understand why people think this is going to happen.

If Vieira is going to succeed Guardiola, then why have they sent him away to New York for the duration of Guardiola's contract?

Why isn't he Pep's assistant, soaking up his knowledge, learning how he coaches the team and does things? We know Guardiola's methods are unusual, his insistance on doing all training with a football, his crazy positional drills are talked about in great detail in Pep Confidential.

If we are going to have a smooth transition then we want a coach who is going to carry on Guadiola's work and just tweak things here and there, someone who coaches in the same way - we want a Tito Villanova/Luis Enrique type.

What we really don't want is a coach who will turn up and try and change everything Guardiola has done.

If Vieira fails at NYCFC it's going to do his prospects here no good and he's not going to be ready for us, if he succeeds, he's not going to be Pep's assistant and he'd be a poor choice to take over.

I don't see it happening if Pep is only here for 3 years.

Just posting what Brian marwood said during that sky sports live from the cfa. He said that in 3-4 years he expects vieira to become the manager of city after his experience in New York:

Nothing's going to temper my optimism - it's arguably the biggest coup in Premier League history and I can't wait for him to get started.
Obviously, there's no guarantees that he'll be successful in terms of trophies (though his track record, and the fact that he's the best manager in the game, mean the chances must be pretty good). What's especially exciting though is that he will, almost undoubtedly and immediately, address two of our biggest issues - the complete lack of urgency and intensity that characterises our play, especially in the early part of games (which has been a problem, on-and-off, for years, including Mancini's last season), and the huge gaps that exist between our players all over the pitch.

I see City as a huge oil tanker (no pun to Sheikh Mansour intended), which will take ages to stop, turn around and pick up the pace again. I've said all along that all Manuel needed to do was to improve upon what was already here when he arrived, but instead he chose to tear apart our defensive solidity in true Keegan style in the pursuit of more goals and now we need that defensive solidity, he doesn't know how to fix what he's broken.

When Pep arrives he is going to have to slow our oil tanker down until its stopped, turn it around again and get it back up to speed hopefully in the right direction this time. He may be the most revered manager in world football today, but this is the Premier League and I have no doubt that our opposition will refuse to lie down and be trampled on and will seek to find an antidote to Pep's City. It won't be plain sailing for Pep and I personally don't think getting us back on track is going to be as easy as ABC 123 after the damage that's been caused.

In this respect Pep deserves our patience and respect and to be given time to turn our performances around. If there's one manager in the world I'd love to be charged with this task it would be Pep. Thank you Sheikh Mansour.

Would people accept 3 at the back with this team?

A little insight/context could be used here for the Mirror, but it isn't unlike them to skew the facts to suit their own agenda.

Bayer today were playing Darmstadt at home. For those that don't know Darmstadt have risen from financial insolvency, relegation scrappers in the 3. Liga to the Bundesliga in three years; there ground is something out of the eighties (Stadion an der Boellenfalltor) and there budget is tiny comparable to FCB. When Bayern rocked up for the reverse fixture, the Darmstadt ultras held up a banner saying "Our weed is better than your Pep" so todays banner in return stating "Pep was never our thing" wasn't slagging off Guardiola. It wasn't even the main fan group (Suedkuerve or Schickeria) that held it up.
