Tempering the Guardiola Optimism

I have always thought that our offside has been superbly marshalled up till now. The Chelsea game was the first time I have seen a team constantly time their run perfectly through our defence.
When you're using the 18 yard line as actual offside trap the major flaw could be figured out by an under 9's team. It's an attackers dream to actually see a visible line, painted on the pitch and then be able to time their runs accordingly.
It was a strange tactic on a strange day.

He will need some time to settle in. However, there will be the usual nobs on here expecting this:
1st season - PL and a cup
2nd season - PL, CL and a cup
Subsequent seasons - Quadruples all the way
Anything less will be a total disaster and much flapping will ensue.

Flapping? I'll shoot the fucker if we haven't won the champions league by Halloween.

I suspect that if someone did a proper analysis of how effective the offside trap has been across Pellegrini's time, it would prove to have been very successful. However, it is not and never has been a tactic that I like.

It's a bit like zonal marking at corners, it can be very effective much of the time but when it goes wrong, it usually seems to cost a goal. As it happens, I do prefer zonal marking at corners.

My biggest concern is about how the players feel now, do they, like a lot here think that it doesn't matter what happens now this season as it will all be fine next when Pep's here. Do they still have the hunger to go and win games when they're not at their best? I'm beginning to think a Pep mist has shrouded everyone, fans, players, staff and not enough care and determination is going into the rest of this season.

Just out of curiosity but, are there any managers out there that are available to take over until Pep comes?
I would say that if we loose the next three games we definitely need to do something in order to ensure that we get as much as we can out of the last ten league matches.

Benitez? I reckon he'd do it for a few months. Not going to happen though even if we lose the next 3 matches. Pointless discussion, sadly.

I watched half hour of Bayerns last game and they defend deeper and look solid aside from one brain fart, looking foward to some clean sheets

That's good for you as it's Pep's preferred set up.
