Ten Away Games That Still Make Me Smile

Bizzarely, the highlights to that game, including the scrambled goal, are on Youtube.

I thought about this game after I posted my off the cuff list yesterday. Went fucking mental when we scored. Banged my knee on one of the metal crash barriers when we were going apeshit at Lakey's late equaliser. Weird mixture of pleasure and pain iirc.

Fucking great day out.

Got my foot stood on by a police horse at that game ,fucking agony and when I asked for the number of the dibbles rider he said I will only tell you if I arrest you !

As a young lad of 18 at the time of that Blackpool game me and some mates made a fortune (was then, about £150) selling fake tickets.

A mate worked at a printers and run a load of tickets off. We sold them on the train and in a few pubs.

Sorry if you was there and it was a bit full

You weren't responsible for the "missing 10,000" at the Charlton game in '85, were you? To think, all these years I've been blaming Swales.

Blackburn again.A 4/0 win.
First game after Carlos and Munich carry on.
Mario playing in his best spell for City, a scorching Octobers day as well.
Thought I was going to collapse due to heat exhausting in October.

No mention yet of my favourite away games; the s/f against Ipswich at Villa Park in '81. Stood in the Holte End near that dividing barrier running up the middle of the stand. I had the perfect view of Power's free kick, and knew it was going in as it was on its way. Blues everywhere in the ground that day. Then, later in that same year, around September time, Stoke away. Tricky Trev's debut. A roasting hot day, and the Victoria Ground was jammed with City fans. We won 3-1, with Trev bagging a brace and Phil Boyer (I think) getting the other.

I have fond memories of the 4-2 at Oxford. Firstly, because we were 2-0 down at half time and did a stormer of a second half and scored 4. Secondly, and bizarrely, the away end was behind one of the goals and there was a high brick wall right down the middle. City fans were in the left hand side and you could not see any action on the right side of that end of the pitch. That is probably the most restricted view I have ever experienced. It was a fantastic afternoon though.

That was a seriously hot day and I was in the lower tier!

Was at that game. Missed the our first 3 goals waiting for a frozen fucking pasty.
think they were scored within 10 minutes of the restart iirc.
Brightwell's header for the 4th was right in front of us. We could see that.

Blackburn 2000 was the ultimate away day. Other notable occasions are the Munich anniversary derby, Lokeren and Schalke.

The highlights are as scrambled as the goal ! I'd forgotten what a dump the ground was, freezing cold with a gale force wind blowing. Happy times.
