rebuilding United will be a long and complex project…. They have a group of players who they have overpaid for, who typically under perform and who are overpaid in terms of salary. Shifting some of them will be very difficult, the bigger clubs won’t want them? United will want to recoup some of the fees they’ve paid and there won’t be many takers, and smaller clubs simply won’t be able to offer the wages required - so I can see a few players running down contracts or being paid to play for someone else. A good case in point - look at Rashford…. I’m sure there’s clubs who’d take him but no one will pay him £350k per week - so he sits tight or United pay half his wages for the remainder of his contract… so do United let him walk (on a free) next summer or do they activate the additional year in his contract - it’s a lose lose scenario.
Rebuilding is beyond any individual and requires a huge capital investment on infrastructure and players, even for one of the richest clubs in the world. Revenues will continue to decline if they continue on their downward spiral. It is hard to see them getting back on their perch any time soon.

The days of United players commanding a premium on transfer fees are long gone. In fact, probably the opposite because of their inflated wages and loser mentality.

Expectations have been very carefully managed. If he doesn’t get relegated in the first season, he’ll get another to rebuild. If he at least manages European qualification after that he’ll get another season to get a squad together for a tilt at the title. It’ll take them another year to realise it isn’t going to work. Three years all in.

Remember the first two years will be supported by a million media articles of the type “why Eric Ball Bag is the best manager in the world” and “Eric Ball Bag has shown he is better than Pep at this”. BBC pundits will predict great things. Gary Neville will explain he is the guy they should’ve had all along. The thick rags will nod along. Only at the end will any dissent be allowed.

Seen they're 4/1 to finish above the dips next season.... That means you put a pound on, you lose a pound.

Seriously those odds are awful, bookies just taking money from giddy rags.
