Just after a bit of advice, just about to rent a property to live in and I have this in my tenancy agreement. Its a 3 year contract with the option to move out at anytime with 3 months notice.

This bit i dont like is this:


c) The rent shall increase on an annual basis by RPI plus 2% (subject to a maximum of 6%). This is subject to negotiation
by both parties to this Agreement.


Thats a big increase on say £800 a month rent! Is this normal because ive been renting since I was 20 years old and i'm now 27 and never had an anuual increase especially in the current economic climate.
 
I would just ask the landlord like I did when I read it on my tenancy agreement

He agreed that me being there paying and not torching his house down was better than £50 a year increase
 
It's standard clause within the contract to adjust for inflation, he wants the place secured for three years, my take would be to negotiate a release clause if he decides to increase the rent, then you have the option to leave if you cannot afford this increase, also negotiate a 1 month notice period, 3 months protects the landlord and not you.

Been renting one bedroom flat for 4 years now - just had one increase from £660 to £700

In that time had new fridge freezer and new oven.
 
Meet with him. Explain your concerns. Offer either yourself or your missus in exchange for the increase.

Say £50 quid off for a blow job. One months free rent for a go on your starfish.
