Sadly agree, he will do his last majors next year and have a hell of a send off especially at Wimbledon.

Well, I'm not sad for him. A very great tennis player — perhaps the greatest of a great generation — but I somehow never took to him. Either as a person, or a player. He had a great run — now it's the changing of the guard, and personally I find that quite refreshing.

P.S. I did like those ads he did with Sharapova, though, back in the day. Quite some thing simmering between them…

I just liked Sharapova.

His dad seems to be a bit of a dick.

What a nightmare. Ultimately it's just highly paid athletes whacking a ball, but nonetheless you have to feel for the lass.
Anisimova will be fine. She was already playing with house money with the run she's had over this past week after not qualifying for Wimbledon 2024 in being ranked 189.

She'll be in the top 10 after this week (#7) and last I checked, the runner up prize money from Wimbledon isn't half bad to the tune of $2M (US).

Good thing Amanda took the time off and got right mentally in 2023-24 to get to where she is today, which is light years ahead of where she was.

All props to Iga Swiatek today, not many others could have beaten her today, I dare say. At least not without incesent grunting ruining it for anyone not wanting to totally mute the match.

9 different ladies winners of Wimbledon in the past 9 years going back to Serena Williams in 2016. The toughest tournament on that side to maintain consistency. One additional note, none of those prior winners are named current top ranked Sabalenka or top contender #2 Gauff either.

Probably but I wouldn’t put it past him to win the US or Australian.
I would. He's already on record before this Slam event that this was his best chance remaining given his overall game on the grass courts.

I think the weather will be a big factor going forwards too. He was dying out there and the heat seems to really exacerbate the age gap.
Last I checked, it can get a bit hot and muggy in NYC in late August-early September. I know it has been hot over the two weeks for spells at Wimbledon, but it's possibly/likey going to be even hotter and tougher coming up for him.

I wouldn't favor him to win a Grand Slam again, and I didn't for this one too, tbh.

why do we assign so much on the personalities of sports players, we only really see them on the odd interview but seems we must take a 'i like him' or 'i hate him' stance, don't see to do that in team sports so much, tennis players really under the spotlight to avoid so much personal critcism. human nature i suppose.

I do have the vaguest idea of tennis, going all the way back to the likes of Rosewall, Newcome, Laver and Nastase etc. Forgive me for not recognising a players voice who's last grand slam win was over 20 years ago. I do agree, however, he was a brilliant player. Far better player than a commentator.
No, I was talking about his insights. Next level compared to the dross from Lloyd, Castle, Henman et al. Really knows his stuff.

US and AO can be really hot, but they can also be 18-23 degrees.

Even things like scheduling might affect him a lot. Murray and Nadal had much, much better records at night games than day games in the heat over the last few years of their careers.

I think he’s still good enough to win one of the next 8, after that he’ll just be playing because he wants to play for Serbia in 2028.

I'll be surprised if the US Open that starts next month gets below 23C, and I don't think temperature will be the only factor too.

I think he's good enough, IF the top players lose. We're just not seeing that yet. One of Sinner or Alcaraz may lose, but both?

Draper, Fritz, Shelton, Musetti, and others are only going to be looking to improve their games too. Those younger players are likely getting better, so the number of capable players able to take him down in a best 3 of 5 will increase. I don't think going forward it will only take Sinner or Alcaraz to beat him, but we'll see soon enough in New York.

Forget Draper he hasn’t got it in him.
