Tennis Thread

Incidently, Osaka lost in the last 32. Since she could not play in France or Wimbledon due to depression meaning she could not face the press, Osaka has:
Launched her own clothing brand, with a press day;
Appeared on the front cover of Sports Illustrated, with an interview inside;
Apologised for "handling the issue badly."
Played in some other events.
Hmmm....
I think my scepticism was justified.
Mental health issues are not linear.

She really seems like a superstar in the making. Incredibly talented and already seems like a natural infront of the media. Great for women’s tennis that our talent is going to fully take over from the men’s game in this country and all the exposure that goes with it. Post the Henman and then Murray eras, it looks like we are set for the Raducanu era. Best of luck to her.

She'll probably never get as much recognition. She's the daughter of two foreign bankers and sounds like she's Eastern European.

Another Chris Froome quite possibly.

Behave,like the other member last night.....such blinkered and preconceived opinion isn't healthy and helps nothing.You are already looking for reason to be outraged when none exists.

Name sounds Romanian, but feels like in the modern world, “nationality” is where you lay your head at night and pay your taxes.

All this, plus she's got Marcus Rashford ready and waiting in the background, to send messages of support should she fail.

I know her background. I'm just saying what her likely fate is after Froome, Ruzedski etc.

They said pre match that she is only the 4th woman after Graf, Seles and Capriati to make the 4th rd or better in their first two Grand slam events.

The bookies have her at just 7/1 to win the tournament which is crazy when she was an complete unknown a couple of months ago!
Bencic her next opponent is the 5/1 tournament fav.
Sabalenka is fav at 3/1
